Context: Meloni’s statement was a direct response to a claim Donald Trump made in a recent interview with Italian TV channel La7 (on the program Aria che Tira).

Trump alleged that at the recent G7 summit in France, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni had “begged” him for a joint photograph. He said words to the effect of: “She begged me to take a picture with her. She wanted a picture with me so badly. I wouldn’t have taken it, but I felt sorry for her.” He also suggested she was probably happy he even spoke to her.
