Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s office confirmed on Wednesday that the country’s military has been cut off from full access to SpaceX’s Starlink satellite system as it seeks to defend itself against a now nearly five-year Russian invasion.

“Tonight SpaceX introduced a speed limit for the Starlink terminals in motion,” said Presidential Adviser Sergiy Beskrestnov.

“Our defence forces were not warned about this restriction, which led to the disruption of a number of missions,” he added.

“Obviously, this action cannot be a coincidence and is linked to the current political situation,” he added.

A Ukrainian man has gone on trial in Hamburg accused of blowing up Russia’s Nord Stream gas pipelines to Germany, four years after one of the most dramatic acts of sabotage in modern European history.

Prosecutors say Serhii Kuznetsov played a leading role in a team of saboteurs that destroyed the pipelines, accusing him of a war crime. His defence has called for the case to be dismissed.

The case is highly sensitive in Germany, seen as one of Ukraine’s closest allies since Russia launched its full-scale invasion in February 2022, seven months before the attacks took place.

The morning after the pact was announced, Ukrainian drones struck Russia’s diesel-producing Novoshakhtinsk oil refinery. Trump lashed out, lambasting Volodymyr Zelensky and calling for him to be ousted.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he has discussed the possibility of an energy ceasefire with Russia with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, Finnish President Alexander Stubb and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte but is waiting for more information from the United States.

US President Donald Trump has said he thinks “it’s time for Ukraine to get a new president” as he responded to Volodymyr Zelensky’s criticism of the US diesel deal with Russia.

The Ukrainian president warned a new deal to release millions of tonnes of Russian diesel into the US would provide Moscow with money to continue its war against his nation, calling it a gift to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Trump told reporters outside the White House on Saturday that Zelensky “wants to make problems for the world” by continuing to authorise attacks on Russian refineries.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has rediscovered the vocabulary of peace at the precise moment his army is taking Ukraine apart, one bridge and one power station at a time.

On September 25, addressing Russian journalists, he said that every proposal for settling the four-and-a-half-year war remained on the table, then attached the condition that empties the offer of content. “We are ready for talks and to wrap them up as soon as possible, but on conditions acceptable for the Russian people,” Putin said. Moscow would first assess what served its own interests.

Ukrainian and European officials are set to meet US President Donald Trump’s envoys in Miami on Friday to discuss “new ideas” to end Russia’s war in Ukraine.

Ukraine’s President Volodomyr Zelenskyy confirmed the meeting on Thursday evening, after a Russian attack on buses killed 30 civilians in the frontline city of Kramatorsk in eastern Ukraine.

Before the strikes in Kramatorsk, a Russian missile hit a five-storey apartment block in the northern Chernihiv region, killing 22 Ukrainians, including five children.
