There are so many questions about how it was possible for a gunman to nearly assassinate former President Donald Trump late Saturday afternoon. Questions have been raised over who has jurisdiction over the building that the shooter was perched on, but it is widely agreed that there weren’t enough Secret Service resources protecting President Trump. This failure will be subjected to intense scrutiny for many, many months.

MSNBC pulled its left-leaning talk show “Morning Joe” from the air on Monday following an assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump over the weekend.

The progressive show, hosted by Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski, will not air Monday morning and will resume Tuesday, despite the start of the Republican National Convention.

A source familiar with the matter told CNN that the show was pulled to prevent one of its dozens of guests from making an inappropriate comment while live that could paint the show and network in a bad light.

A federal judge dismissed in its entirety the classified documents case against former President Donald J. Trump on Monday, ruling that the appointment of the special counsel, Jack Smith, had violated the Constitution.

In a stunning ruling, the judge, Aileen M. Cannon, found that because Mr. Smith had not been named to the post of special counsel by the president or confirmed by the Senate, his appointment was in violation of the appointments clause of the Constitution.

The ruling by Judge Cannon, who was put on the bench by Mr. Trump, flew in the face of previous court decisions reaching back to the Watergate era that upheld the legality of the ways in which independent prosecutors have been named. And in a single swoop, it removed a major legal threat against Mr. Trump on the first day of the Republican National Convention, where he is set to formally become the party’s nominee for president.

The left-wing voter-turnout group that once received a small donation from the man suspected of attempting to assassinate Donald Trump described the former president as a “threat to our democracy” just hours before the shooting but is denouncing the violence unleashed at Saturday’s rally in Pennsylvania.

It shouldn’t be news by now but if it is: These people aren’t playing games.

As of this writing, there’s little to say about the assassination attempt against the former president other than thank God he’s reportedly okay and deep condolences to anyone at the Trump rally in Pennsylvania who may have suffered serious injuries.

This attempted murder may galvanize both Trump and a majority of the American people to deal with the Left decisively. We must hope so.

The annals of American history will have few artifacts as potent as the iconic image taken by Associated Press photographer Evan Vucci, of a bloodied but defiant Trump, rising from a symbolic grave, fist raised, and framed by an American flag. This election is likely over. Trump went down as a fatmouthing politician, and rose as a pagan demigod. If Jesus Christ and George Washington came down from heaven to replace Joe Biden and Kamala Harris on the Democratic ticket, Trump would still likely win in a landslide.

What is perhaps most astonishing about Saturday’s attempted assassination of former U.S. president Donald Trump is just how close Trump came to death. It was a matter of centimetres. A bullet from an AR-15 rifle, fired from a distance of 150 metres, nicked Trump’s ear.

It’s almost as amazing that it’s taken this long for somebody to make a serious attempt on Trump’s life.

Giving credit where credit is due, NBC (and simulcast on MSNBC) wasn’t anywhere near the dumpster fire on Saturday night that CBS was in covering the assassination attempt against former President Trump that left at least one Trump rally attendee dead and others injured. That said, there were still a few humdingers, such as pathetic use of the GOP drinking game/bingo word “seizing” and more perverted speculation.
