On Monday, in Montreal’s Côte-des-Neiges neighbourhood, 25-year-old Seth Hatfield of Lethbridge, Alta., is alleged to have carried out a shooting that resulted in the deaths of an officer and a civilian before he was fatally shot by police. Initial media reports described Hatfield as an “incel” who sought to target women. Yet his 104-page manifesto is unarguably pro-communist, anti-western and anti-Zionist. It blames what he sees as the displacement of monogamy not on women, but on capitalism and consumer culture.

We were running late to check out of our hotel because my two young girls had demanded to use the pool one last time. I indulged them. The squeals of laughter were worth it. Afterward, we hustled to pack, race out the room and at 11:40 a.m. the lift doors opened in the lobby of the Hilton in Côte-des-Neiges district of Montreal.

Our path was blocked by staff. There was, one hotel worker informed us, a shooter. I sent my wife and children back up to our room and, with the dubious conviction of a professional journalist, went to investigate.

The officer killed during a shootout in Montreal’s Côte-des-Neiges neighbourhood on Monday has been identified as Const. Mohamed Lamine Benredouane.

“It is with profound sadness that we confirm the tragic death of Constable Mohamed Lamine Benredouane while on duty protecting the public,” reads a statement from Montreal police (SPVM) issued Monday evening.

Update: The suspect behind a shooting that left three dead Monday in Montreal is believed to be an anti-feminist who drove from Alberta in the days leading up to the tragedy.

According to sources consulted by our investigative team, investigators believe that this man advocates an ideology that aligns with that of involuntary celibates, the “incels”.

A Canadian police office has been killed after an active shooter opened fire in Montreal on Monday morning, officials said.

The Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) officer, who has not been named, was confirmed dead by the agency shortly after shots broke out around 11.30am in the Côte-des-Neiges neighborhood.

The unidentified suspect has been ‘neutralized’, police said.

At least 12 people in a crowd on a Chicago street suffered gunshot wounds after an SUV pulled up and two people inside the vehicle started shooting, police said.

The SUV drove away from the South Side neighborhood, leaving two people, both male, in critical condition following the shooting late on Friday, police said in a news release. One suffered a gunshot wound to the thigh.

The eight men and four women in the group ranged in age from 17 to 47. They were being treated at four hospitals.

A search for suspects who wounded 12 people in a shooting in Toledo entered a third day on Monday as authorities in the Ohio city continued to piece together a timeline – and a prosecutor promised “justice will be swift and strong”.

All of the victims of Saturday’s attack at a downtown cultural festival, ranging in ages from 14 to 61, were in a stable condition late on Sunday, the Toledo police department said.

Detectives have not identified any suspects or made arrests. But they said more than one person opened fire during the Old West End festival, an event combining live music with tours of historic homes.

Not very swift so far.

Police say they are searching for suspects after at least 12 people were shot near a festival in Toledo, in the midwestern US state of Ohio.

The Toledo Police Department said 10 people “are reported to be in stable condition, while two remain in critical condition”.

It said it responded to a report of a shooting near the Old West End Festival at around 17:37 local time (21:37 GMT) on Saturday.

Toledo Deputy Police Chief Joe Heffernan said it appeared that two people fired weapons and they were “probably shooting at each other”.

Eight people were shot and wounded as gunfire erupted at a family-friendly festival in Ohio on Saturday, officials and reports said.

Cops responded to chaos unfolding at the Old West End Festival in Toledo around 5:40 p.m., according to a statement local police shared on X.

In video of the incident, at least 16 shots could be heard ringing out as people screamed and dove for cover.

The obligatory mass-shooter manifesto has been recovered in the wake of Monday’s San Diego mosque shooting carried out by two teenage losers, and predictably, it is a testament of nihilistic rage directed at just about everybody and everything.

Law enforcement and the media are now in possession of the 75-page document compiled by Cain Clark, 17, and Caleb Vasquez, 18 (or 19, depending on the source), who killed themselves after shooting three Muslim victims dead outside the Islamic Center of San Diego. Investigative journalist Amy Reichart reports that the manifesto revealed the two to be not trans lovers, as many were quick to claim on social media, but straight incels – “involuntary celibates,” a subculture of mostly males bitter about their inability to find relationships with women.

A 75-page manifesto linked to 17-year-old Cain Clark and 19-year-old Caleb Vasquez, the two suspects in the Islamic Center of San Diego shooting, has answered the question everyone was asking: why? The document, now in the hands of law enforcement, paints a detailed and deeply disturbing picture of the two young men.

The “manifesto” is still available on X but not for embed it seems.
