As the number of school shootings in this country seems to grow exponentially, there is one dog that hasn’t barked. That is there has never been a shooting in a school where teachers and staff are known to be armed. As far as my research can tell, there has not even been an attempted shooting.
Four people were killed and 14 others wounded when gunfire erupted outside a Chicago nightclub Wednesday night, CBS Chicago reported, citing authorities.
Police said a drive-by shooting occurred around 11 p.m. outside the Artis Restaurant and Lounge nightclub on the 300 block of West Chicago Avenue in the Near North Side neighborhood of the Windy City.
Revelers were leaving the “high-end dining and nightlife destination” after an album release party for Chicago-based rapper Mello Buckzz.
Odd how this has received so little publicity compared to the Idaho incident. Higher body count, higher number of wounded but much less media.
We still don’t have the full details on this weekend’s mass shooting outside Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, but we are beginning to put together some of the pieces.

Two firefighters were killed and a third was injured when first responders were ambushed by an hours-long barrage of gunfire after arriving at the scene of a blaze in Idaho Sunday afternoon, authorities said.
The horrific attack, which began around 2 p.m. local time on Canfield Mountain near Coeur d’Alene, ended about five hours later when SWAT teams discovered the lifeless body of a man next to a firearm on the popular tourist trail, according to the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office.
… “We have currently one dead shooter based on the preliminary investigation that was being conducted. Keep in mind we had a fire that was rapidly approaching the body so we had to scoop up that body and we had to transport that body to a different location. We believe that it is the only shooter that was on that mountain at that time.”

Two people were killed Sunday afternoon when firefighters responding to a brush fire in western Idaho were suddenly ambushed by gunfire, authorities said.
The burst of gunshots – which are still ongoing – erupted around 2 p.m. local time as first responders arrived at the scene of a fire at Canfield Mountain near Coeur d’Alene, according to the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office.

I’ve always thought the concept of mass shootings, such as those in schools, were “uniquely American” was a rather American-centric form of ignorance. These things happen all over the world, after all, and have for ages. Most Americans who like to think of themselves as worldly, though, tend not to be as well-versed on what happens elsewhere as they like to believe.
But I had to acknowledge that it looked like we had a much bigger issue than most places.
The Austrian school shooter who massacred 10 people at his former school on Tuesday killed his neighbour in the horrific attack, it has emerged.
Artur A., a 21-year-old from a suburb of Graz, was revealed to have shot and killed a young girl who lived nearby as further details emerged of his abandoned plans to carry out a bombing and messages left behind for family.
The former student of the school killed a teacher and nine pupils between the ages of 14 and 17 in Tuesday’s rampage in the city of Graz.
Update: Citing police sources, local media reported that the gunman was a 22-year-old former student of the school and was armed with two weapons, a pistol and a shotgun, both legally owned, one of which he turned on himself.

On Friday, I reported that the father of the Abundant Life Christian School shooter had been charged. That report was scant on details as to why he was charged specifically, only that he had been.
This may or may not be out of place in and of itself, but the idea of charging parents is troubling without a very good reason to do so.
School shootings are once again in the news. There were two last week. When the pundits in the media and online talk about school attacks, a false narrative often emerges that it is a uniquely domestic “American epidemic,” fostered by widespread firearms ownership and insufficient firearms regulation.
Police in Ecuador say they have arrested four people in connection with an attack by gunmen at a cockfighting ring in which 12 people died.
Weapons and replica police and army uniforms were seized during police raids in the north-western Manabí province on Friday – a day after the attack in the rural community of La Valencia.
Footage of the attack shared on social media showed gunmen entering the ring and opening fire, as terrified spectators dived for cover.

When reports began circulating that an active shooter was on the FSU campus in Tallahassee, Anne-Mari Eriksen was one of countless distressed parents trying to make contact with their loved ones at the school.
At this stage, she was desperate to find out if her son was okay, but as details emerged through a press conference on Thursday afternoon, a new nightmare emerged – her son was responsible for the carnage unfolding.
Phoenix Ikner, 20, was identified later by cops as the shooter, with authorities revealing he was the son of sheriff’s deputy Jessica Ikner and had used her weapon to kill two people and injure another six.
Active shooter events have been tracked by the FBI for over two decades. There are interesting results when those statistics are compared to other data. A new study states that civilian responses to these events are less adverse than police responses. The April 2025 study found that “armed citizens do not interfere with police, and in active shooter situations, they reduce deaths and injuries significantly more effectively than the police.”
The son of a Leon County Sheriff’s deputy killed two people at Florida State University and wounded six others on Thursday after gaining access to his mother’s handgun and going on a campus rampage, police said. The shooter, identified as 20-year-old Phoenix Ikner, was shot by officers and taken into custody before being transported to the hospital, according to police. He is believed to be an FSU student. His mother was assigned by the sheriff’s office to protect a local public school.
