OTTAWA – A majority of Canadians don’t think lasting peace is possible between Israelis and Palestinians, a new poll suggests.

Slightly more than half of the people responding to the Leger poll said lasting peace isn’t possible, while less than one-fifth said a peaceful solution can be reached.

The IDF shared on Wednesday morning an audio transcript of Hamas terrorists discussing the rocket attack by the Islamic Jihad that hit a hospital in Gaza the night before.

In the audio, the Hamas terrorists acknowledge that the shrapnel of the missile “are local pieces, and not Israeli shrapnel.”

The head of MI5 has raised the spectre of Iranian-backed terror attacks in the UK in the wake of the war in Israel.

Ken McCallum, the security service’s director-general, addressed the conflict for the first time while at an unprecedented security summit also attended by intelligence chiefs from the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

He said the “monstrous attacks” on Israel could increase the risk of terror atrocities in the UK and raised concerns about the threat from Iran.

Progressives’ response to Hamas’s atrocities reveals that they never believed in their own dogma.

It was all stuff and nonsense, wasn’t it? All that talk of “hate speech” and “accountability culture” and “systemic oppression” and the need to ensure that everyone in the community feels “safe” at all times? It was all guff, flotsam, baloney. About 15 minutes passed between the news of the atrocities committed by Hamas and the crumpling of the progressive creed. Rarely has jetsam looked so vile.

Everything is connected.

After the Hamas massacre of Israeli children, the media chose to amplify fake news about a landlord-tenant dispute in Chicago in which the landlord allegedly stabbed a female Muslim tenant and her son. Even though the landlord is an American Polish Catholic who has nothing to do with Jews or Israel, the media, Islamist groups and the Biden White House all blew up the story and tried to connect it to the war in Israel based on, apparently, the mother’s word.

Thanks to support from Iran, Hamas is fairly well-armed and, of course, it makes up in viciousness what it lacks in technical sophistication. However, Hamas’s greatest weapon is propaganda. In the latest conflagration, it engaged in a single orgy of killing. Now, though, it’s looking forward to weeks of anti-Israel propaganda that the world’s media will unhesitatingly accept and relay. The latest example is Hamas’s claim that Israel killed 900 innocent people in a Gaza hospital. The story was almost instantly debunked but don’t expect that to change the narrative.

When conventional armies take on enemies who have neither uniforms nor overt bases, and who impolitely refuse to assemble in conveniently targetable mass formations, the inevitable problem is how to find them. Indeed, such a task is often impossible, a reality that otherwise intelligent tacticians have mysteriously refused to accept, from Napoleon in Spain to the US in Afghanistan.

The Rand Formula or “mandatory check-off” is a straightforward concept in labour law: employees in a unionized workforce must pay union dues. It was born of an arbitration decision by Supreme Court Justice Ivan Rand that ended a 1945 strike against Ford in Windsor, Ontario. Before Rand, unions could only collect dues from members on a voluntary basis and the employer did not assist in the collection. The UAW sought to make union membership mandatory and have Ford collect and remit dues to the union. Ford sought to keep union membership voluntary so as to limit the union’s power. Rand ultimately ruled that while membership would be technically voluntary, employees had to pay dues whether or not they chose to formally join the union.

The continuing proliferation of conflicting and contradictory stories leaked by U.S. intelligence services regarding what they knew—and, more importantly, didn’t know—about the planning for Hamas’ assault on Israel, is more than just a D.C. bureaucratic comedy act. Taken together, the profusion of leaks suggests there are people in offices and agencies across the Beltway who are worried they’ll be blamed for missing signals and human intelligence outlining plans for the largest one-day massacre of Jews since the Holocaust.

Yes, but a lesser one. The failures to discover the plans, deter the attack and, having failed at deterrence, to defeat it promptly are Israel’s.
