Toronto police are searching for a man after someone was allegedly assaulted during a demonstration in downtown Toronto on Saturday.
Investigators say the victim was walking northbound on Yonge Street near Grosvenor Street and was speaking with another demonstrator when a man approached them from behind and allegedly punched them several times in the head without provocation.
The CityNews caption for the post below is accurate, but not the article’s headline.
Kyle was not there to participate in the demonstration. He was accompanying an independent journalist to help ensure her safety after other protesters threatened her for recording the public event.
That same journalist captured the brutal assault. Her footage is now being circulated by police to help identify the assailant.
None of this should be necessary if police were proactive in maintaining public order and protecting the public.
The same individuals continue to dominate public spaces and are repeatedly implicated in incidents of violence. Yet scrutiny seems to fall on those targeted, who are asked, “Why were you even there?”
