OTTAWA — Outspoken Ontario Conservative MP Jamil Jivani says that Prime Minister Mark Carney is erring in trying to “accelerate conflict” with the U.S., after cross-border trade talks broke down late Friday night.
Jivani told National Post that Carney struck the wrong tone in a fiery missive, sent just before the midnight deadline, vowing to match imminent 50 per cent tariffs on some Canadian goods “dollar for dollar.”
This is incredible propaganda. There’s something very wrong when you go from being “this close to a trade deal” to repeating lines from a propagandistic speech from April of 2025.
This Party saw the writing on the wall, not having Trump to fear would bring support crumbling to… pic.twitter.com/wDrQ76PvSt— Ryan Gerritsen🇨🇦🇳🇱 (@ryangerritsen) August 22, 2026
