Published Monday, the report from the Office of the Chief Science Advisor of Canada recommends the creation of a new federal body to standardize, collect and investigate UFO reports.
“The mystery of unidentified phenomena in the sky has long fascinated humanity, capturing the public imagination and arousing both skepticism and curiosity,” the new report states. “Together, the analysis presented in this report suggests that Canada would benefit from an improved process for reporting, collecting, and studying UAP sightings.”

Canada’s chief science advisor quietly launched a government project to study unidentified flying objects and the possibility of alien civilizations, without parliamentary oversight or a public budget.
Dr. Mona Nemer, who earns $393,000 a year, began the Sky Canada Project two years ago and assigned seven staff to the initiative.
The Pentagon man gathered top technology executives from the six largest defense contractors in 2022 to ask an unusual question: Have any of your companies ever gained access to alien technology?
“It would just make my job easier if one of you would ’fess up, give me the UFO, or help me find them,” said Sean Kirkpatrick, who had been tapped by the Defense Department to investigate whether Washington had ever had a secret alien program.

A tiny Pentagon office had spent months investigating conspiracy theories about secret Washington UFO programs when it uncovered a shocking truth: At least one of those theories had been fueled by the Pentagon itself.
The congressionally ordered probe took investigators back to the 1980s, when an Air Force colonel visited a bar near Area 51, a top-secret site in the Nevada desert. He gave the owner photos of what might be flying saucers. The photos went up on the walls, and into the local lore went the idea that the U.S. military was secretly testing recovered alien technology.
But the colonel was on a mission—of disinformation. The photos were doctored, the now-retired officer confessed to the Pentagon investigators in 2023. The whole exercise was a ruse to protect what was really going on at Area 51: The Air Force was using the site to develop top-secret stealth fighters, viewed as a critical edge against the Soviet Union. Military leaders were worried that the programs might get exposed if locals somehow glimpsed a test flight of, say, the F-117 stealth fighter, an aircraft that truly did look out of this world. Better that they believe it came from Andromeda.
Case specifics aside the disinformation campaign was not “unknown”.

Last week, a team of astronomers led by the University of Cambridge professor Nikku Madhusudhan announced that they had found tentative evidence for a ‘biosignature’ embedded in the light from a distant planet. Scientists and non-scientists around the world tried to interpret the results. Was this it? Was this the moment when humanity could finally claim it had answered that ancient question: are we alone?
As an astrophysicist involved in the search for life beyond Earth, I can tell you that the results were not that moment. But that doesn’t make them any less exciting.
The Vatican’s secret archives have long been a magnet for mystery – and now, alien intrigue.
Sprawling across more than 50 miles of underground shelving, these heavily guarded documents have fueled wild speculation for centuries.
But some researchers now believe the Holy See could be sitting on the biggest secret of all: proof of extraterrestrial life.

It was an excited crowd that filled a lecture hall at Cambridge University’s Institute of Astronomy on Thursday afternoon. There were seasoned professors, gaggles of graduate students and studious researchers. Even the astronomer royal, Lord Rees of Ludlow, had come along to the hastily arranged seminar.
They were there to see Dr Nikku Madhusudhan, professor of astrophysics and exoplanetary science, discuss an astounding finding.
Madhusudhan and his team believed they had established the strongest evidence yet that life exists on another planet. Newspapers around the world that morning carried his claim that a watery planet called K2-18b — roughly 124 light years from Earth — may be “teeming” with algae-like organisms. The 100-strong audience was “even more excited than I am”, says Madhusudhan.

This week’s news reports highlighting the discovery of the “strongest evidence yet” of life on a distant planet, K2-18b, raise a number of pertinent questions. If life is confirmed there, what would be the next step? Should humans try to establish some sort of contact with these extraterrestrials once we know where they are?
The reports stem from a new paper based on the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST)’s detection of the spectral fingerprint of a single molecule, dimethyl sulfide, in the atmosphere of the exoplanet — that is, a planet which exists outside our solar system. This molecule is not a reliable biomarker according to another paper from earlier this year, which shows that it is found in the interstellar medium without the presence of life. On Earth, this molecule is produced by microorganisms in the oceans.
There are some scientific discoveries that do much more than advance our knowledge: they create a shift in our psyche as they show us the scale of the Universe and our place in it.
One such moment was when space craft sent back images of the Earth for the first time. Another is the discovery of life on another world, a moment that has inched a little closer today with the news that signs of a gas, which on Earth is produced by simple marine organisms, has been found on a planet called K2-18b.
Now, the prospect of really finding alien life – meaning we are not alone in the Universe – is not far away, according to the scientist leading the team that made the detection.
In a potential landmark discovery, scientists using the James Webb Space Telescope have obtained what they call the strongest signs yet of possible life beyond our solar system, detecting in an alien planet’s atmosphere the chemical fingerprints of gases that on Earth are produced only by biological processes.
The two gases – dimethyl sulfide, or DMS, and dimethyl disulfide, or DMDS – involved in Webb’s observations of the planet named K2-18 b are generated on Earth by living organisms, primarily microbial life such as marine phytoplankton – algae.
This suggests the planet may be teeming with microbial life, the researchers said. They stressed, however, that they are not announcing the discovery of actual living organisms but rather a possible biosignature – an indicator of a biological process – and that the findings should be viewed cautiously, with more observations needed.
