Ontario Premier Doug Ford has vowed to fight Toronto’s plan to decriminalize hard drugs, calling it an “absolute disaster” for the city.

“Craziest thing I’ve ever heard,” Mr. Ford said. “Go out to Vancouver, go out to San Francisco.”

“I will do everything I can to fight this,” stated the premier. “Again, this goes up to the federal government. They cannot be following up with [this] request,” the premier said on July 14 while appearing on 640 Toronto, a radio show with Alex Pierson.

Within minutes of arriving at the small parkette next to the South Riverdale Community Health Centre, I’ve witnessed two drug deals.

There are a number of people in obvious stress in the park, including some sharing an unknown substance towards the dark corner at the back of the park.

Toronto is forecasting a budget deficit of roughly $915-million this year, which it plans to address by almost depleting its pandemic reserve fund if other levels of government don’t step in.

The city council’s executive committee is expected to discuss a series of budget-related reports Tuesday, the day before Olivia Chow takes office as Toronto’s new mayor. Ms. Chow, who won last month’s by-election to replace John Tory, will be inheriting a dire financial situation, mostly stemming from reduced transit revenues due to lower ridership and higher shelter costs for people experiencing homelessness during the pandemic.

It’s not going to get better.

On the same day of the brazen stabbing on Toronto’s subway system, the accused, Moses Lewin, was supposed to make an appearance in a Milton, Ont. courtroom to face another string of charges, court staff say — but he didn’t show up

Instead, the court issued him a bench warrant.

Mayor-elect Olivia Chow says she “can’t imagine” the grief and shock being felt by some members of the community following a spate of violent incidents in Toronto, including one that recently left a mother of two dead, and that stopping the violence will be one of her top priorities as mayor.

“My condolences to the family and loved ones of Karolina Huebner-Makurat,” Chow said to reporters following an anti-Islamophobia event Monday morning. “I can’t imagine the grief and the shock that’s going through the rest of the community.”

For a city, an amazing mother and wife was stolen from a beautiful family.

The first is described as a tall and 25 to 30 years old with a medium build, cornrows, and potential head injuries. He was last seen wearing a white t-shirt with a black stripe from sleeve to sleeve, blue jeans, and white shoes.

The second suspect is described 18 to 25 years old with a slim build, average height, and long hair in a ponytail. He was last seen wearing a black baseball hat, a black North Face hoodie, dark coloured jeans, and white shoes, while the third is tall and 18 to 25 years old with a thin build. He was last seen wearing a grey hoodie, dark pants, and shoes.

We need Gangsta Healing Lodges so victims of oppression may be released quickly.

Police say the victim, who has been identified as Karolina Huebner-Makurat, 44, of Toronto, was struck by a stray bullet while walking in the area. She was transported to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased.

Both suspects are descripted as Black men.

Anyone notice something odd here?

I see very little “outrage” over this unfortunate woman’s murder.

I guess that’s the new normal in Chowtown.

A suspect has been arrested in connection with a stabbing that left a man with life-threatening injuries on a moving subway train earlier this week.

I imagine Chow will have him guarded by social workers while she preps his Key to the City ceremony. I see him as a near perfect choice to be Chowtown’s next Diversity Chief.

The cost to rescue a multimillion-dollar boring machine trapped beneath a west end street has nearly tripled in just months, with city staff saying the work to unearth the device is more complicated than first anticipated.

The updated cost estimates and timeline come to Toronto’s General Government committee next week. Documents show work to free a micro-tunnelling boring machine trapped under Old Mill Drive since last spring has jumped to $25 million — up from the approximately $9 million price tag in March.
