LONDON — Britain’s domestic intelligence service has taken the extraordinary step of publicly identifying a Chinese research organization it says is being used to strengthen Beijing’s espionage capabilities, warning more than 100 UK-linked academics have already contributed to projects ultimately funded by China’s Ministry of State Security.
The public alert also puts academics on notice that from now on, continuing to work with the organization could expose them to criminal prosecution under Britain’s National Security Act.
