There’s one American industry we’ve, so far, been unwilling to defy. That needs to change
Since the beginning of the second Trump administration and the turn of the United States from ally to threat, a grand disentanglement has been underway. The systems that once connected the liberal world order — in defence, in trade, in our alliance networks — are being torn up and rebuilt. And as painful as those changes are, they are obviously necessary to preserving Canadian sovereignty, and the changes are, to a greater or lesser extent, underway. But the biggest challenge, the hardest change, is in technology. Canada has woken up, after thirty years of integration, to find ourselves a digital colony.
Yes Canada has made many tech contributions that have improved the world but decolonization would bring us back to a virtual stone age.
