The two women who drifted into a small Ohio town reminded Adrienne Behrman of her younger self. They were fleeing a toxic living situation in Maryland, they said, when their car broke down and left them stranded in a motel.
The story was a bit vague. But Behrman, 49, had twice been homeless, overcome addiction and knew how hard it could be to share details. She took the women into her home despite friends’ warnings.
