The military hasn’t determined whether a Cyclone that chopped itself up while landing on a frigate last month is salvageable, nor has it made a decision to ditch the troubled helicopter fleet.
Cyclone CH148813 sustained serious damage Oct. 6 during a night landing aboard HMCS Ville de Québec in the Norwegian Sea. As it was touching down, two of the maritime helicopter’s main rotor blades struck its own tail boom, severing multiple components. The four-person crew conducted an emergency engine shutdown and got out safely.
