Rob Ford moved to palliative care

TORONTO – What a fighter!

If there’s still time on the clock in any football game or political battle, you’ll never find Rob Ford — player, coach or politician — giving up.

The former mayor is proving that once again.

Councillor Ford’s family say he’s been moved from the cancer ward on the 14th floor at Mount Sinai Hospital to palliative care on the fourth floor.

“It’s not looking good,” said someone on the inside.

We all know the drill. Best Mayor ever.

“Harper Should Be Embarrassed He’s Having to Count on Support of Rob Ford”

says idiot who berates his own supporters:

Trudeau, asked during an appearance in Montreal about the prime minister’s association with the Ford brothers, said Harper should be “embarrassed that he’s having to count on the support of Rob Ford for his re-election.”

Justin Trudeau scolded supporters who heckled a reporter during a news conference in Montreal on Thursday.

“Hey! Hey! We have respect for journalists in this country,” Trudeau shouted. “They ask tough questions and they’re supposed to. OK?”

Rob Ford Found to Have Been “Unnecessarily Reckless” In Accidental Bumping

Oh, please:

Rob Ford should be found in contravention of city council’s code of conduct for running into Coun. Pam McConnell during a raucous debate nearly two years ago, Toronto’s integrity commissioner says.

In a report issued earlier this week, Integrity Commissioner Valerie Jepson says that Ford “was acting in a manner that was unnecessarily reckless, lacking in decorum, and contrary to the Code of Conduct for Members of Council.”

Ford violated two articles of the code, Jepson says: one governing conduct at council and committee meetings, and one that covers discreditable conduct.

Ford’s decision to run through the council chamber that day was “reckless and it was unbecoming of the position he held at the time,” Jepson writes, adding that Ford agreed with that assessment when she met with him about the incident.

The report notes that Ford apologized to McConnell, and offered to make a donation to a charity or cause of McConnell’s choice “to further express regret for his actions.”

The report further recommends that council allow the integrity commissioner’s office to send the money to the city, to then be disbursed “in the manner proposed by Councillor McConnell.”

Toronto Will Not Be Making a Bid on the Olympics

Robyn Urback is a hack:

While all this was going on, former mayor Rob Ford took to the airwaves to offer his two cents on a potential Olympic bid. Speaking to Newstalk 1010’s John Moore, he cut through the mania about the Olympic Games, saying:. “A) We’re not ready for them, B) We don’t have the infrastructure for them, and C) We don’t have the money for them.” And there I was, sitting in my car and nodding like an idiot, comforted by the fact that someone understands we can’t blow billions of dollars hosting one of the most historically wasteful, odiously expensive and socially and physically disruptive sporting events of all time. Wait a second — Rob Ford’s reassuring voice on the radio is talking down the shenanigans at Mayor Tory’s City Hall? Where the hell am I?

This glitch in the Matrix was only temporary, thankfully. On Tuesday morning, Tory announced that Toronto would not be making a bid for the 2024 Olympic Games. “I believe that one day Toronto will be a great Olympic venue,” he said, “but not in 2024.”

“In the end, it is not my job to be rash. It is my job to make the best decision in the interest of Toronto,” he continued. “I can’t look people in the eye at this point and say that an Olympic bid is the best use of our time and energy.”

That’s the John Tory I recognize from the radio. Nice to hear your voice again, sir.

So we stopped by Ford Fest

K and I popped in at Ford Fest. It’s being held at 2200 Islington, essentially the parking lot of the Sears discount outlet. When we arrived a little after 5 the parking lot was nowhere near full, when we left at 6:30 it was packed and cars were lined up waiting to get in.

First we did a little shopping. K couldn’t resist the Elvis briefs, and somehow they suited the evening’s event.

Ford nationThis was my second Ford Fest, as with the first it was a multi-ethnic crowd in attendance, I doubt any other candidate has such a diverse constituency.

Doug arrived and he was mobbed by well wishers. Later we were told that Rob would only be doing a walk-through, he is under Doctor’s orders not to mingle with the crowd.

As we left I had to wonder at the accuracy of the polls. I somehow doubt many of Ford Nation have ever been contacted.

We will see on election day.
