The Destruction of “The Individual”

…Some have said that the affinity between the Left and Islam has to do with the historic crimes of the West and the Judeo-Christian culture. In doing so, they willingly ignore the murder and terror that accompanied the Islamic conquest of Arabia, The Levant, North Africa, large swaths of Western Asia and even parts of Europe in the heyday of the Caliphate. Although there may be some element of truth to the accusations of Western crimes, it does not compare in scale, ferocity or longevity to the crimes of Islam. In any case, the affinity is deeper and more central to the Left and Islam than that.

It is about human nature, and the urge to change and control it. Islam, you see, is about surrendering the individual will to Allah, and although Progressivism purports to be about compassion and “humanity”,it shares with Islam a kind of surrender of the individual. The Left and Islam are united in their animus toward individualism, family loyalty, nationhood, liberty and and an open and questioning religious faith. At the very bottom of the issue, Islamic Jihad and the progressive Left have this in common: as Dostoevsky put it in The Brothers Karamazov, “…the more I hate men individually the more I love humanity.”…

Bernie Sanders’ wife tried to kick group home for disabled from college property?

Bernie Sanders’ wife tried to kick group home for disabled from college property?

From Rick Moran at PJ Media:

Jane Sanders, wife of former Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, is under investigation by the FBI for questionable actions in taking out loans to purchase property when she was president of Burlington College in Vermont. The college went under in 2016 due to the enormous debt Mrs. Sanders saddled the college with before she left in 2011. Upon purchasing property to expand the college, Mrs. Sanders sought to evict a group of disabled people who lived in a group home on the property. More.

Reality check: No one who has read George Orwell’s Animal Farm need be surprised. The word compassion in such circles merely signifies that the target group can be used to advance progressive political objectives. Some can’t.

Stop Calling Them Progressives — Call Them What They Really Are!

Years ago Marxist-socialist leftists, embarrassed at being Marxist-socialist leftists, made up a shiny new name for themselves, ‘progressives.’ It’s a word that sounds like a garden of forward-thinking delights, but is simply code for the failed, human-spirit-destroying government-command-and control that birthed all the evil “isms” of the past. That’s why every time I hear a conservative commentator in print, radio, or on TV call lefty-socialists “progressives” my 200 billion brain cells swoon.

Anti-Semitism Is Creeping Into Progressivism

Last weekend, organizers of a gay pride parade in Chicago ejected three people carrying pride flags emblazoned with a Jewish Star of David. Subsequent bizarre statements attempting to rationalize their action, claiming that Zionism is “an inherently white supremacist ideology” only exacerbated the sense that the organizers were deaf to the concerns of the Jewish community and engaged in anti-Semitism — denying Jews the same rights that were extended to other participants, basically to celebrate their identities as Jewish queer women.

Who wants to pay taxes for social sciences?

Aw, maybe it keeps social scientists off the streets. From Protein Wisdom:

Dr Adam Perkins, a lecturer in the neurobiology of personality at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience at King’s College London. Like Chagnon, Perkins is a social scientist whose research findings pose a direct challenge to one of the central planks of left-wing ideology.

Over the past five years, he has accumulated a mass of evidence about the personalities of welfare claimants and concluded that individuals with aggressive, rule-breaking and anti-social tendencies — what he calls the ‘employment–resistant personality profile’ — are over-represented among benefit recipients. He also found that their children are likely to share those traits, which helps explain why poverty has a tendency to be passed down from one generation to the next.

It’s astonishing that such findings would pose a direct challenge to any belief system grounded in the real world. Every community has a few “work-shy” people, and children tend to learn what they have been taught—not what they haven’t.

So? Well, …

Perkins published his findings last November in a book called The Welfare Trait (Palgrave Macmillan, £19.99), but you won’t have heard about it or seen it reviewed in any UK newspaper anywhere because his research has been judged to be off limits by the self-appointed guardians of the academic establishment and their outriders in the media. A senior editor of Nature, one of the leading academic journals, refused to consider it for review because she regards scientific research into the personalities of the long-term unemployed as ‘unethical’, and a sociology professor whom the publishers had asked to peer-review the book refused to do so on the grounds that any book linking benefit dependency to personality must be nonsense because personality is a ‘capitalist construct’. More.

Writer Darlene Click wonders what we did for personalities all those years before capitalism was invented. Same here. I wonder why most people three thousand years ago thought that Hector and Achilles and Helen and Clytemnestra had different personalities …

It’s worth discussing the relationships between genetics, epigenetics, family environment, and external incentives. Discussions one can’t have if one won’t have them on principle.

Maybe social sciences are a problem that is just solving itself. See, for example: Japanese U’s shedding social sciences

Brought to us by the glorious and priceless women’s liberation government of Ontario

Get this: Further to Feminist coverup of mass rape,

In the stacks of cat litter box liner marketed under the brand “Ottawa Metro,” something jumped out at me:

TORONTO – Ontario’s colleges and universities minister says the provincial government approved the establishment of two male-only campuses in Saudi Arabia.

Premier Kathleen Wynne said Friday she’d just learned that the Saudi campuses set up by Algonquin and Niagara Colleges did not admit women, a situation she called unacceptable as she asked Reza Moridi to investigate.

Moridi confirms the colleges applied to his ministry to establish the Saudi campuses, and were given the green light by previous ministers in 2008 and 2012.

However, Moridi says the province’s responsibility is to approve financial plans for the Saudi expansions and that it’s up to the colleges to determine who is admitted.

[blitherblatherblitherblatherblitherblather…]

Reality check: Now come on. How many feminist adminbots and profbots knew this, and said nary a word?

In lots of places in the Western world today, a woman can’t go into a women’s washroom anymore without the risk of a guy staring at her.

But hey, in feminist-run Ontario, the taxpayer was paying for men-only education in some of the most anti-women places on Earth.

And Ontario women vote for it. They love it. They want more.

Aw, Jane, I’ve had it with sympathy for you and yours. Get outta my face!

Stuff not to believe: that Americans are “tired of elites”

As columnist Michael Barone thinks. From Barone:

In a press conference earlier this month Philadelphia police officials described how a Muslim dressed in a white religious robe fired multiple rounds at a police officer, “in the name of Islam,” as he said after his arrest. You could see it on videotape.

At which point Philadelphia Mayor James Kenney proclaimed, “In no way, shape or form does anyone in this room believe that Islam or the teaching of Islam has anything to do with what you’ve seen on the screen.”

How stupid and vicious does he think we are? More.

Reality check: Stupid and vicious enough, Barone, that he still had a job. And thousands like him.

They’re not wrong. We are, if we don’t see what it all means: Government no longer cares to protect citizens and doesn’t need to.

When welfare gets the popular vote, indulging the fashionable beliefs of the elite, however fantastic they are, becomes a greater priority than public safety. Between elections the welfare vote is expendable. More such voters reach voting age every year anyway.

Edmonton Catholic school board supports “transgender” washrooms

From MercatorNet:

Staff, students and family members should be able to use bathrooms and change rooms which are “congruent to their gender identity”. Schools need to provide this both on campus and on excursions and outings. … Unsurprisingly, the trustees of the Edmonton Catholic school board ended up accepting the principle of transgender inclusivity. Commenting on the government’s new guidelines, the board’s chair, Marilyn Bergstra, told the media: “My wish would be that every single word in that document is adopted.” More.

Reality check: It’s safe to say that today anyone who votes for a progressive government votes for partial birth abortion, (eventual) non-consensual euthanasia (possibly with falsified death certificates), clampdowns on freedom of expression, and abridgement of historic protections for women (for “cultural” reasons), never mind traditional expectations like washroom privacy. At this point, I have very limited sympathy because the trajectory is quite clear. If your public sector union job matters more to you than life, liberty, or privacy, well, you chose, right? You had a vote. Many who suffer around the world didn’t.
