GUNTER: Lavscam brings home global corruption concerns

Canada is party to several international treaties against bribery. Most involve governments from rich countries promising to police their countries’ companies, so executives don’t pay bribes to officials in poor countries in order to win large foreign contracts.

But why should Canadians care if one of our companies, such as SNC-Lavalin, slips some tinpot little dictator an unmarked envelope stuffed full of bills or pays for his son’s hooker binges in Montreal?
