Elizabeth Warren Says ‘Boo-Hoo’ To Critics Of Her Plan To Break Up Facebook, Amazon, Google

Warren, one of the leading 2020 Democrat presidential candidates, released a plan on Friday to break up some of America’s largest tech companies, which includes Facebook, Google, and Amazon, as a means to separate herself from the increasingly large swathe of Democrat presidential candidates.

The Massachusetts senator called for the appointment of regulators who would “unwind tech mergers that illegally undermine competition.” Warren will also call for legislation that would block platforms from both offering a marketplace for commerce and participating in that marketplace.

A Nakawe elder says her traditional medicines were “desecrated” during a routine security screening in February at the Halifax Stanfield International Airport.

Geri Musqua-Leblanc, a residential school survivor from Keeseekoose First Nation in Saskatchewan, said a Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) supervisor denied her request to have her golf ball-sized medicine pouch, worn around her neck and filled with plants considered to be sacred, put through an X-ray machine instead of being opened and handled.

Ontario mulls plastic ban

Ontario is weighing a ban on single-use plastics as part of a broader strategy to send less waste to landfills.

Nearly a tonne of waste per person in Ontario is generated each year, and the rate at which that waste is diverted away from landfills — through recycling and composting, for example — has stalled around 30 per cent for the past 15 years.

The government recently released a discussion paper on reducing litter and waste, and is asking the public and stakeholders for input on how to best address the problem. One question it asks is if a ban on single-use plastics would be effective in reducing plastic waste.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford ratcheted up his rhetoric on Ottawa‘s climate change plan Monday, warning that the carbon tax will plunge the country into recession — a claim disputed by experts and the federal government.

During a speech at the Economic Club of Canada, the Ontario premier said there were already warning signs of difficult economic times ahead and a carbon tax would kill jobs and hurt productivity.
