Asia Bibi, the Christian woman who spent eight years on death row on blasphemy charges in Pakistan, has arrived in Canada with her husband, German media reported Friday, quoting her lawyer.
“She is united with her family”, Bibi’s lawyer Saif-ul-Malook told the German Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung newspaper. DW was not able to immediately confirm the development.
Bibi’s two daughters already live in Canada.
Assuming these reports are true it’s telling that the Trudeau government has been so silent on the matter. Knowing them for the publicity whores they are what could be their motivation for such sudden reticence? And why are we reading about these developments in the foreign press?
Security concerns are top of mind, the LPC’s Islamist constituency will not be happy to hear an infidel has escaped death. Trudeau’s Liberal party has done little for those suffering at the hands of Muslims the world over and Asia Bibi’s asylum brings that deliberate bigoted neglect into sharp focus. This silence isn’t about humility, it’s about mitigating their record of antipathy toward Christianity in general. It’s not about shame as the LPC lacks all sense of that. It is about the cynical hope Asia Bibi’s asylum may score them much needed virtue signaling points. It’s too little too late.
Update: Pakistani Islamists clash with police during protest demanding Christian woman accused of blasphemy is hanged, as lawyer suggests she may already have fled to Canada
