My sister passed away last year. A public memorial was held and I caught a glimpse of how deeply she was appreciated in the community. Ruth was a lifelong resident of our little town and I think volunteered for everything.
I have just returned from a private family ceremony in which her ashes were interred with her husbands.
I was shown a very pleasant surprise while there. Our hometown created a memorial bench in her honour.
She loved her garden and local couples would ask to have wedding photo’s taken in her backyard. She also loved fishing, from the time she was little girl and our Dad would take her out.
A public dedication of Ruth’s bench will take place in August.
She was the stuff small towns are made of.
