FUREY: Toronto to turn college dorms, community centres into refugee shelters

The City of Toronto has activated its emergency plan to deal with the spillover effect of asylum seekers crossing illegally into Canada at the Quebec border. The plan includes housing aspiring refugees in college dorms and local community centres.

Think about that for a second. A problem occurring in another province, 600 km away, and yet it’s causing sufficient turmoil for Toronto’s Office of Emergency Management to kick into gear something called the Contingency Plan for Emergency Social Services.
