Chinese Police Dynamite Christian Megachurch

HONG KONG — Chinese police officers demolished one of the country’s largest evangelical churches this week, using heavy machinery and dynamite to raze the building where more than 50,000 Christians worshiped.

The Golden Lampstand Church in Shanxi Province was one of at least two Christian churches demolished by the authorities in recent weeks, part of what critics describe as a national effort to regulate spiritual life in China.

Under President Xi Jinping, the government has destroyed churches or removed their steeples and crosses as part of a campaign that reflects the Communist Party’s longstanding fear that Christianity, viewed as a Western philosophy, is a threat to the party’s authority.

I bet Justin will be outraged!

Somebody please inform the Communist party that communism is in fact a western philosophy. So in that regard, that junk has long since set sail.

Oh and the church is its people, not the houses they happen to occupy.

The Christian faith according to reports has grown dramatically over the last few decades in China. It is estimated that there are more Chinese Christians there than the entire population of Canada.

Oh I’m aware. It’s been the talking point of many a pastor for some time. Mao, who once so sure he had eradicated christianity in China for all time, would be so disapointed I’m sure.

And its not the wimpy socialist Christian faith that we have here in North America.

Unfortunately, many of the mainstream churches in the U.S. and Canada are moving toward socialism. My understanding is that The UCC is a pretty nasty bunch. Other very liberal and socialist church groups, like the deceptively named World Council of Churches are making inroads into churches here in North America.

The mainline liberal churches are dying fast. The United Church of Canada, has a gay moderator, supports abortion, welcomes homosexuals, doesn’t believe in the Bible, and even has ministers that don’t believe in God. Whereas in South Korea, it is now basically a Christian country and sends out more mission workers to the world than all of North America.

Unfortunately, they’re not dying fast enough!

            Thank God.

Chairman Mao was merely carrying on an old Chinese tradition, as many of China’s more famous Emperors were very notorious for their iron-fisted cruelty, brutality and lack of regard for human life. Communism just happens to mesh well with China’s tradition of government = all, the people = nothing.

          • Jabberwokk

            I agree.

    • Christianity isn’t Western — it’s a Middle-Eastern religion, as are Judaism, Islam, Bahai, Zoroastrianism, etc.

The Communist Chinese got their facts backwards on both Politics and Religion — Communism is in fact a modern (industrial-age) Western political ideology, invented by a German named Karl Marx who lived most of his life in London, England, and he is buried there in Highgate Cemetery. And Christianity is not in fact a Western religion, it was founded by a member of the Semitic tribe of Judah named Yeshua ha Nazri. Western Europe and “Western culture” didn’t even exist yet. And Columbus didn’t discover the “Western Hemisphere” until 1,500 years later — if anything, the “West” was evangelized by the “East” in terms of religion!

Whether it’s the Communists in places like China, or the Communists in the West, there’s always one thing they are consistently reliable for everywhere: Lying about history.

        Your damn right.

  • Remember – Justin loves this country more than Canada.

Justin is the best prime minister Chinese money can buy.

  • caliroxanne

Justin, and his friends in the U.N., would only be outraged if it were a mosque that they demolished!

I think China is going back to its Imperial roots, because they weren’t very friendly to Christianity (Or outsiders for that matter) during the days of the Emperors.

    The politburo is running scared.

The only deity and faith permitted are the Communist Party. Any distraction, including hope for a life after this one, are not to be tolerated. (The ChiComs also went after local animist shrines back in the day. Worshiping and propitiating your local fertility deity or water spirit were no-nos.)
