Triumph of Venezuelan Socialism: 4 Rolls Of Toilet Paper Now Costs Only Half Of Monthly Minimum Wage!

NAIGUATÁ, VENEZUELA — The thin, elderly woman paused at a supermarket display of toilet paper to do a quick calculation. A four-roll package cost 115,204 bolivars, almost half of the country’s new monthly minimum wage.

“Keep believing in the revolution,” she scoffed aloud Wednesday at the store in Naiguatá, a coastal community about an hour’s drive northeast of Caracas, the capital.

Why do I get the nagging feeling this will be Ontario’s reality shortly?

        • Martin B

Linda McQuaig, Canadian journalist, oilsands hater, Hugo lover, politico, and author of several bestsellers on the evils of capitalism and the blessings of socialism.

            Wow!
She has written one anti-American screed after another since about 1990.
This is my fave: “In Holding the Bully’s Coat: Canada and the US Empire (2007), McQuaig argues that Canada should stop supporting the US in its role as an imperial power.”

CIA kill teams come back, all is forgiven!

If you have savings, put it into something other than Canadian dollars
Gold, silver and us dollars will still have value when the Canadian dollar does what the Venezuelan peso did.

    • Linda1000

As in buy actual gold /silver bars or stocks and where to store?

      • canminuteman

I have a stash of gold and silver bullion on my property. There are many secure places to hide it in your house that no one is ever going to find it. Just don’t forget where you put it. Gold mining stocks are for trading and {trying ) to make money off over the short term. I don’t look at gold so as an investment because you have to sell it to get your cash and it doesn’t produce dividend or interest income. Gold will retain it’s US dollar value when the local currency collapses. I have started buying US dividend paying stocks (in an ETF), and in the event that the Canadian dollar becomes worthless, I will still get US dollar dividends.

Thanks, I am going to buy some of those pure gold maple leaf coins from the Cdn. Mint which seem to be the most recognized if they are available.

          • canminuteman

I think that is a very good choice.
