Why the Remaining NeverTrumpers Should Apologize Now

Public apologies are difficult for most people, but particularly for political pundits whose livelihoods and reputations depend on their being right at least some of the time (Paul Krugman excepted).

Such statements can be emotionally wounding, even humiliating. But it isn’t my purpose to humiliate or, worse, to gloat — which is a repellent trait and almost always counterproductive. No spiking the football here.

Never Trumpers should have their heads shaved and be paraded through the streets in a hail of rotten eggs and tomatoes.

That photo over-states the numbers of the remaining #NeverTrumpers. For one, Mark Levin voted for – and publicly endorsed – Trump and has been praising many of his policies lately, as has Ben Shapiro.

The real #NeverTrumpers are that tiny band of Conservative Commentators that have invested their whole net worth in Never-Trump stocks and are watching it dwindle day by day They are so invested in their initial assessment of Trump that when the NeverTrump stocks finally go to zero they will jump over to the Left in order to salvage something of their careers, rather than admit that they were wrong. The Left will greet them with open arms and use them as token-conservatives to bash Trump with.

Here would be the question to find out if someone is a NeverTrumper Conservative: “If you could go back in time to change your vote, now knowing how Trump has governed, would you change it to a vote for Trump?” True NeverTrumpers will say “no”.

I will forgive Ben Shapiro if he kills himself.

People should not apologies for political standpoints, it’s enough to admit one was wrong.
