What Life Was Like For Christians And Jews When Arabs Ruled Jerusalem

Following President Donald Trump’s declaration that the U.S. would recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, Palestinian Liberation Organization leader Saeb Erekat quickly shot back and demanded “equal rights for everyone living in historic Palestine.”

Protests over Trump’s move have sparked riots in Jerusalem, the Gaza Strip and even violent protests in Europe, from Germany to Sweden. But how exactly did Arab Muslims treat Christians and Jews when they ruled over Jerusalem for 19 years?

It appears Arabs were anything but tolerant toward either. The Daily Caller News Foundation examined Arab rule over the eastern half of Jerusalem from 1949 until 1967, and found that both Christians and Jews were routinely denied religious freedom and often faced persecution at the hands of the Arabs when Muslims were in charge of the eastern half of the holy city.

The Palestinians never once demanded a independence when under Jordanian/Egyptian rule (1948-1967).
Nobody in the West or in the Arab World gave a rat’s ass.

Israel is playing this one properly i.e. “Facts on the Ground”.
I don’t see anyone running around complaining about the Chinese occupation of Tibet or the Turkish occupation of Northern Cyprus.

The Old City under Israeli jurisdiction has freedom for all religions (lets the Christians continue their bickering over the Church of the Holy Sepulchre ) and lets the Moslems have unwarranted control over the Temple Mount.
In Haifa the Bahai have a beautiful temple complex and there is no persecution or restriction.

While the old city was under Jordanian occupation – synagogues were destroyed, tombstones from the Mount of Olives were used as paving stones and Jews were not permitted access to the Kotel. (The Western World said nothing).

    • It’s all BS and the world has grown tired of it.

perhaps since turkey is moving towards islamism and away from it’s kamalist roots that Trump comes out and recognizes both the illegal occupation of northern cyprus and the armenian genocide.

I don’t see anyone running around complaining about the Turkish occupation of Byzantium.

      Free Constantinople. Expel the turks!

The “Palestinians” did not exist during that time. I suggest that is why there was no such demand.

The Mayor of Nazareth has just barred all Christmas events, celebrations, etc., in retaliation against all Christians for Donald Trump recognizing Jerusalem.

So there is a good, proven indicator of how Muslim administrators act when allowed the power. While I don’t necessarily trust the Israelis, I absolutely would not trust Muslims.

under Arab Rule Christians And Jews had the right to choose between death by stoning, death by rape, or death by beheading…

    “Sparked riots”?
Some pitiful efforts (probably western media encouraged), consisting of very amateurish photo ops of burning tires and silly idiots dancing around seemed to be about all that was on offer.
