Nunavut’s languages commissioner had Kugluktuk shred its hamlet election ballots

Elections for hamlet mayors and councillors were held in every community, except Iqaluit, on Dec. 11. In Nunavut, election information must be printed in Inuktitut or Inuinnaqtun as well as English and French.

    Does anyone there speak French?

    • Is the Inuktut language written with the Western alphabet?

      Isn’t that cultural appropriation.

What about electricity, heating, medical care, import of food by airlift, television, internet, personal hygiene ? Sure as hell much bigger cultural appropriations there!

Alcohol overtakes everything. A lot of drunk people. Been there, I saw it.

English. I spent one week there 12 years ago. An awful lot of Muslims, was very surprised. All taxi drivers from Somalia and Nigeria. And then… the mosque was built.

What!! They can’t vote in their own stone age language. I hope little Justin cries and apologizes. Certainly there should be a 55 million dollar inquiry into this genocide.

Geez! Ballots in four languages because so many can’t read any?

    • Uncommunist

      four languages = four x’s

Good point. I don’t have a problem with the native language concept, except that did the Inuit even have a written language?
