Feds not tracking outcomes for Syrian refugees: AG

OTTAWA — The Liberal government is struggling to track the impact of its historic effort to resettle upwards of 40,000 Syrian refugees, the federal auditor general concluded Tuesday in his fall report.

Markers like how many kids are in school or how many Syrians are on income assistance weren’t being measured between fall 2015 and the spring of this year, the period examined by the federal watchdog, raising questions about what happened to the population once they began to settle in Canada.

“We were concerned about the department’s inability to track whether the Syrian refugees had access to basic provincial services, such as health care and education — especially considering that part of the department’s objective was to help Syrian refugees benefit from Canada’s social, medical, and economic systems,” the auditor general’s report said.

I smell the usual Liberal Rat. They aren’t tracking outcomes to avoid revealing the truth.

Nailed it in one. I am so sick of our, so called, betters that the guillotine is starting to look like a reasonable solution.

What’s more is that they know what the outcomes are going to be. If they were just naive, they would track the outcomes so as to be able to choose some really good examples of Syrian refugees fitting in and being successful, and use them in publicity to assuage concern by the Canadian population. When they discovered these success stories are non-existent and the overall statistics are terrible, an originally naive administration would then hide these statistics. The fact they didn’t even bother to try to gather them is the proof that they knew what the outcomes were going to be.

There are one or two success stories but they are few and far between. I recall the family who set up a chocolate factory in N.S. I think and another of a barber at a hair salon.

Are you sure they were Syrians and not Armenians (although from Syria) ?

        • Linda1000

I really don’t know so will see if I can find the old articles.

  • As long as they can get them in time for 2019, what’s the problem?
