NYT Columnist Calls Capitalism The ‘Real Culprit Of The Climate Crisis’

A New York Times opinion article recycles the old argument that capitalism is the root cause of global warming, and that turning to socialism would give humanity a better chance of survival.

Capitalism is often invoked as a global warming boogeyman that will inevitably lead to another mass extinction if more restrictive policies aren’t put in place. However, this NYT column goes on to claim that a “democratic socialist society” is the answer.

It is easy to see now why closing most mental institutions and making admissions very difficult to the few still left open was such a high priority for communists in the west.

  • Tooth&Claw

They are as stupid as they are evil. Obviously they’ve never checked out the toxic dumps/wastelands in communist countries.

  • Okay. Sure.

    • Clausewitz
      • Exactly.

Progressives call themselves that since they believe in the inevitable progression from Capitalism, to Socialism to Communism: just because Karl Marx said it would.

        • WalterBannon

Karl Marx left out the true end state, feudalism-redux

the circle of life, progressing back to the starting line where we are all vegetarians because meat is only affordable for the rich commissars/elites/feudal lords and all peasants are equally stripped of rights and wealth

      • WalterBannon

meet the new feudal lords, same as the old and long dead feudal lords…

the goal of communism is feudalism, with a new slate of feudal lords in charge of oppressing the peasants

Well, when you slaughter a good 100 million individuals in the 20th century, I guess that’s supposed to be good for reduced CO2 output… They are just soooo ‘progressive’. Tell me why these genocidal f.ck bags are still allowed to be free – the marxist/socialist is a miserable creature indeed.

North Korea is a leading example in how Communism and the lesser Socialism leads to a lower per capita energy use and thus a lower carbon footprint and lower ecological effect caused by mineral exploitation of mining.

      • MarvLS1

So does mass genocide…which they also practice.

“Carbon footprint” is a total myth. The effect of carbon on the climate is minimal and is limited by the finite amount of carbon there is on earth.

One volcano creates more “ecological effect” in one eruption than the entire Industrial Revolution combined.

        Take the red pill.

      • Bla Bla

        lol

Sounds like you are describing Ontario – our energy use has been declining too – no thanks to wynnebag.

University professors shouldn’t be allowed to vote.

  • Killer Marmot

Putting ideology aside and taking an empirical approach, I do not know of a single socialist economy that has ever worked. I do know many socialist economies that have been humanitarian and human rights catastrophes.

I am at a complete loss to understand why anyone could argue for socialism.

    • Lightstream

I don’t think there’s one bit of logical thinking in any of them. No appreciation for what they have either. They should all be rounded up and sent to Russia…starting with the lunatics in Universities.

    • MarvLS1

Because their real goal is to destroy 9/10 of humanity and use the survivors as slave labor, while they live like kings in their ivory towers and palaces. Socialism is a way to create a manageable population of serfs.

The NYT write claims that the least-educated people making decisions under Socialism would be better than the smartest people allowed to make decisions under Capitalism. Yes, he did actually claim that.

It would seem that he seems to have studied no actual examples of Communist countries, as Democratic Socialism is Communism with make-up applied. Even the example of Venezuela which easily fits the definition of Democratic Socialism would be a good example of how any central authority is incapable of making sensible detailed economic decisions that a Capitalistic decentralised system of producers, sellers and consumers excels at.

I wonder if he thinks his iPhone (or Droid phone) would have ever been developed under a Democratic Socialist system?

What we really need is Madame Guillotine and do what they did in the French Revolution and be a warning to others who want to rule over others and put greed and power over common sense.

Would stop all this space exploration to other planets as I see it will be an escape for the privileged. They got to learn they are in the same boat.

Global Warming we all learnt in Ecology, and all depends on a cycle. Destroy that cycle and one upsets the world’s balance.

You think they would have learnt from the dust bowls of the USA, but no they cleared the environment, destroyed the wildlife as they cleared. Then the poisoned seas.

    • Lightstream

Geologists have found evidence of global warming before man was here. How do they explain that? Dinosaur flatulence?

      • knightsstrength

There is always natural and man made

  • Hard Little Machine

Who does Mr Fong know and/or is related to to get an op-ed column in the NYT as a college student? I think we can safely ignore whatever it is he has to say about anything for about the next 10 years until his brain is fully formed.

  • MarvLS1

    Except…there is no climate crisis.

  • Jay Harper

I don’t see how filling more mass graves will help our survival?

    • Maggat

Hells bells, population growth has to be controlled somehow and that, other than the direct costs, is the cheapest and easiest.

  • Maggat

“democratic social society” it won’t work worth a damn. Even the Russians gave up on that one. Every other society that’s tried it led to bloodshed and starvation. IE Cuba and Venezuela.

  • WalterBannon

next time muslims attack New York they should use a nuke.
