Greek island on strike in protest against becoming migrant ‘prison’

Residents on the Greek island of Lesbos went on strike on Monday to protest against European policies they say have turned it into a “prison” for migrants and refugees.

Islanders shut businesses, shops, municipal offices, nurseries and pharmacies and dozens rallied on a central square, calling on the government to transfer asylum-seekers to the mainland.

    endless supply of boats

    • Watchman

Every year, another 30 million people born in Africa will need housing, food and other resources. This means a need for boats to carry a possible 30+ million across the Mediterranean Sea, per year, increasing up to 50 million per year by 2050. Might be a boom generation for German boat manufacturers and accomodation builders. 44 million existing German taxpayers might have to supply the welfare for 30 million extra Germans every year, and with ‘refugee’ employment rates as low as 25-30% even after five years, then the Germans are going to need to borrow lots of money or increase their effective annual taxation rate well above 100% to pay for the new German welfare recipients.

EU allows coyotes to take boats back

        • Watchman

I believe that Australia burnt all ‘refugee’ boats seized from people smuggling efforts. That would probably merit a fine from the EU masters for air pollution as well as claims for compensation from the people smugglers who they will claim to have just rescued the ‘refugees’ offshore and are bringing them to the French, Italian, or Greek coast, as required by International Sea Law.

Don’t need fire to destroy a boat.
I would be down there making sure those suckers won’t float ever again. Ever.

The inflatables being used by the Libyan people smugglers are imported from China.

Pre-owned fake lifejackets on special offer.

Well, it’s gratifying to see that the WH&S people have ensured that there are millions of day-glo orange flotation vests washed up on the shores of Lesbos.

    All praise passenger safety rules!

    • Watchman

I believe the quality of these ‘life vests’ is abysmally low, give they are a single trip item and not intended to be recovered and reused. I would not be surprised if they are just pieces of styrofoam crudely sewn between two layers of orange fabric. I think it’s part of the people smuggler’s sales pitch, given that almost no ‘refugees’ can swim, “You’ve heard about boats sinking and people like yourself drowning? Fear not, because on our migration plan everyone gets a free lifejacket you can keep afterwards.”

New factual headline: “Lesbians Protest Vast Influx Of Heterosexual Males To Island”

I think it would be better to move the greeks to the mainland and fence off the island.
