UN panel gives go ahead to ‘killer robot’ debate that could come up with a code of conduct for ‘lethal autonomous weapons systems’

A U.N. panel agreed Friday to move ahead with talks to define and possibly set limits on weapons that can kill without human involvement, as human rights groups said governments are moving too slowly to keep up with advances in artificial intelligence that could put computers in control one day.

The UN won’t be doing much after we have replaced them with robots too.

OMG!— The UN assholes , with the full knowledge of how useless they are– are Afraid of ‘Killer Robots’.
      I don’t blame them.

At this is more of an achievable goal than stopping the Climate from changing.

Do they really think Pandora will go quietly back into her box? Has atomic energy? Anthrax? and the list goes on, and the list goes on…

like all un rules the west will adhere to it, some countries will be exempt and most of the rest will ignore it with no consequences.

  • There’s only one way to do it ethically, imo. A human person, organization, etc. has to be held legally responsible for controlling them. In other words they better have HUGE insurance policies if one of these things malfunctions or goes out of control.

There was a lot of corporate angst about who would be held responsible for death or injury caused by Y2K software bugs.

Just wait until some nutjob outfit with well-oiled connections decides that as autonomous beings, killer robots deserve human rights too. Next up, robots on the UN committee for human rights (whatever it’s called; the one various Muslim countries have co-opted…. we’ve been warned).
