Joined by faith, divided by custom: Muslim women argue for and against Quebec’s Bill 62

When Quebec passed its religious neutrality law in October, it whipped up a storm of discord centred around the bill’s constitutionality and potentially Islamophobic overtones.

If the bill survives long enough to take effect in July — Quebecers are already denouncing Bill 62 and calling on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to intervene with a court challenge — it will prohibit Muslim women who wear face veils from giving or receiving public services.

  • Watchman

How about, “You can’t get public services unless you are a member of the public.

    • Shebel

-but -but–she is a Canadian and knows that her Derision of taxpaying Canadians is her “ALLAH” given Right.

    • canminuteman

I will never deal with someone wearing a mask.

  • Shebel

This is Islamist strategy at its most perverse.

You insult Canada and Canadians all the while MILKING us of the Tolerance that you appear to be Hell bent on Eroding.
    So what is your agenda?

    • Alain

Simple really, the agenda is conquest.

      • Shebel

I was just attempting to pretend that I respected the Muslim bitch.

      • Will Quest

This izzlamic face-mask controversy nipping at western ankles is an intentional controversy, it is a politicized and it is a weaponized agitation infesting our socio-political sphere .
A cudgel for a supremacist, totalitarian ideology wanting to imposing it’s will on western society.
The West must blindly submit to all fetishes rendered sacrosanct by Islam. This is how sharia imposes it’s dogma on non-believers, drip by drip by drip by drip by drip by drip ……….

  • Tooth&Claw

Ahmad, who studies elementary education at McGill University, doesn’t buy into the argument that wearing a niqab impedes communication, either.
“If for example a blind person can’t see, I don’t think they form any less of a relationship because they can’t see a person’s face,” she said.
She fails to see not wearing a mask is consideration for OTHERS. We can’t see your face, your expressions, or who the frick you are lady. It’s for OUR safety.

    • canminuteman

Yes, but you don’t understand. It’s all about them, what we feel is of no consequence.

    • That’s because self-centred victim-baiters can’t empathise or think of anything other than their own interests.

    • Alain

Yeah, Ahmad sounds like a true Quebecer.

    • Linda1000

Hearing impaired people need to see faces to communicate as people who are partially deaf also “lip read” to understand what is being said. Hearing aids do not magically restore 100% of hearing.

  • Shebel

It is strange , Ayeshia, how, Everything that you accuse Canadians of- is Exactly what you are doing to us. The olde ‘Broad Brush” routine when Muslims are avoiding any responsibility for ‘ Islamic Terrorists’ that slaughter babies for the “Glory of ALLAH.
You are just stirring the pot as you extend your ‘Peaceful Agenda of Hate’.

  • Shebel

Those goddamned Quebecors– they are so White.

” This decision was also reckless, it took no responsibility for how this
debate, which singles out and demonizes a small group of Muslim women — a
minority within a minority — might have contributed to the culture of
Islamophobia so prevalent in Quebec. A majority of Québécois (61 per
cent) have a negative opinion of Muslims. Instead of focusing on a real
problem terrorizing its citizens (white supremacy) the National Assembly
chose instead to focus on a manufactured problem (niqabi women),
perpetuating the very Islamophobia that led to the terrorist attack in
    the first place.”

What colour of skin does a Muslim have ? It is probably Racist of me to even ask.
Must be the ‘ White Supremacist’ in me . But-Seriously—- it is a Valid question.

You know something—-maybe it is time that Ayeshia explained her definition of what Islamophobia is— VS Culture and Patriotism.
    The Western version of Culture.

  • Shebel

    Poor Baby.

I had the good fortune of being born one province over, in Ontario.
As a young woman, I wore a niqab for 10 years — from Grade 10 to the end
of my masters’ degree, taking the bus each day to get my high school
diploma and two degrees at the University of Toronto.

the Ontario government did not have such repressive legislation.
Instead, my rights as a Canadian Muslim woman were protected. I was
allowed to wear a niqab and get an education. My niqab wasn’t used by
the government to ostracize and oppress me, to strip me of my rights as a
Canadian citizen. Had I the misfortune of being born in Quebec at this
moment in history, I wouldn’t have gotten an education since I wouldn’t
have been able to get to school.

    Logistics aside, it was bad
enough dealing with the daily racism, sexism and Islamophobia, I cannot
imagine how much more difficult my life would have been if my province
    had officially supported the haters.

  • Shebel

Do you even care about Canada as a Nation ?

“I know for a fact that without an education and access to public
transportation, and the sense that my government was there to support
me, I wouldn’t have the life I do today. I would not have completed high
school, never mind university. I would not be a professor. I would not
be a Canada Research Chair. I would not be who I am.

    We cannot
account for the innumerable losses that will result from Bill 62. Which
Canadian voices and experiences will be erased, made invisible? What
    dreams will die?

There is nothing good in Bill 62 — it is
xenophobia and hatred that cannot tolerate difference. Far from creating
social cohesiveness, this bill splinters and weakens us. Bill 62
impoverishes Canada. It’s been a bad year for Quebec but we will suffer
    collectively for generations to come.”

Please, Ayeshia, make sure to let the hard working Loyal Canadians know what more they can do for you , besides making you the lovely person that you are today.
    We enjoy helping Islamic Radicals.

We enjoy listening to you ”Destroy our Dreams and Culture and Society and Tolerance”.

This whole issue will come to an end after the first burka clad suicide bombers goes into that mosques of other sects that see as apostates and go-jihad to slaughter hundreds .
Muslims will demand the ban, but for now the niqab helps with Welfare fraud where one women can use several ID’s and NEVER show her face. Plus they can robs store and sneak on Air planes in Canada because we don’t force them to show their faces , thanks to Paul Martin orders to stop checking niqab clad person entering Canada.
The goods new is that Liberals will be among the first one beheaded under sharia.
