Army deserter Bowe Bergdahl gets dishonorable discharge, no prison time

Nov. 3 (UPI) — Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl will receive a dishonorable discharge for desertion in Afghanistan but no prison time, a military judge ruled Friday.

Bergdahl was convicted of desertion and endangering fellow troops when he left his post in Afghanistan in 2009 and was captured by the Taliban. He was returned to U.S. custody in 2014 in a prisoner swap.

At the Fort Bragg, N.C., sentencing hearing on Friday, Col. Judge Jeffrey Nance added that Bergdahl must forfeit $10,000 in pay and will be reduced in rank to private.

A travesty. A grotesque imitation of military justice or any justice for that matter.

Might as well do the judge too. Really don’t need that kind of stupid judging people.

    • In this case, the judgment was the opposite of what Clemenceau meant.

An obvious “make him quietly go away, plea bargain”.
The problem is his relatives are not in the least from that genre so he will no doubt join them in whatever hysterics they get up to.

I can’t help but get a feeling that there’s a previous President’s fingerprints all over this decision. Hey, it wouldn’t look good for the former President and Democratic party if they put one of Obama’s proclaimed hero’s into prison.

    • Yes, that is obvious – the judge is politically biased.

  • That’s not good enough. He needs to go to jail.
