Torstar posts bigger-than-expected loss as print ads fall

Torstar, like other publishers, has been struggling to offset the steady defection of advertisers from newspapers to social media and search websites.

Can you see the butterfly tears I’m crying?

    • Linda1000

What, I thought you had goat eyes? I really think you should become a whole butterfly and then you will be a truly rare and beautiful transparent butterfly. They do exist and are very pretty because their wings shimmer in the sunlight. 🙂

I am crying crocodile tears, and I’m not even a crocodile.

But as Denyse O’Leary has pointed out on here before, it’s irrelevant anyway since taxpayers will probably be forced to bail out the Star and other MSM at some point. Then they will become official Liberal mouthpieces (instead of unofficial ones, which is what their current status is).

    • David Murrell

One should consider CBC News as an official mouthpiece of the Liberal party, and most provincial parties as well.

I am shocked. I would have thought that Muslim and Black advertisers would be flocking to the Star to show their appreciation for the Star’s editorial bias. After all we all know that the Toronto Star is a mandatory must read by all in TCHC.

You mean Heather Mallick hasn’t been a roaring success? I would have thought her trash talking the military today, would have been popular in downtown Toronto.

      • simus1

        Kapuskasing’s own Heather Malice?
        Be still my heart.

The laws of gravity are reestablishing themselves. Perhaps a sign that sanity will be making a comeback? On the other hand, merely a symptom of the continuing death of legacy media and its pretensions. The world has moved on. Even dinosaurs like myself stopped buying print and paying attention to low-rent opinionators long ago.

Have they blamed the Jews or Islamophobia yet??

    • Observer

They already said he did it because he was angry at how the Israelis treat the “Palestinians”.

They didn’t have the balls to come out and say what they were implying.

      • ontario john

Meanwhile the Toronto Sun is reporting on a Vancouver imam who is preaching for muslims in Canada to send weapons and money to Palestinian terrorists.

Is the Trudeau going to match those donations dollar for dollar?

          • Maggat

            Wouldn’t surprise me!

  • Tooth&Claw

Crash and burn baby , crash and burn. I’ll bring marshmallows.

  • simus1

Hope the Red Star’s shopping flyers division survives. They are the only ones who attempt to present some semblance of reality instead of oligarch directed marxist claptrap.

    • Observer

None of it should survive. Too much profit went to the Atkinson Foundation to (Soros-like) fund some of the most radical groups in the country.

      • Justin St.Denis

Oh I hate the Toronto Red Star, the Toronto Red Star, the Toronto Red Star,
Oh I hate the Torotno Red Star! I wanna watch it crash and burn!

It’s always good when you get good news on hump day.

    • Justin St.Denis

      Too true!

    • lolwut? (Deplorable Hoser)

The problem is they don’t really care and will likely get bailouts from the Liberals and some billionaire.

The people running places like the Star and NYT don’t see them as a business but a propaganda machine. Profit is secondary to pushing the leftist narrative.

The largest stake holder in the NYT Carlos Slim (Mexican)
has openly stated he’s more then happy to keep it afloat
with money from his other interests.
