Controversial costumes reduce Indigenous people to caricatures, says activist

Halloween costumes depicting racial stereotypes are on the shelves in Saskatoon again this year, but an Indigenous activist hopes few people will wear them.

Having not contributed anything to humanity since the invention of the snowshoe reduces indigenous people to caricatures.

      RASICTS!!!

        But honest, nonetheless…

Well, they did devise some practical clothes to wear in the North and housing.. the seal parkas and boots of the Eskimos, the mukluks and mocassins as footwear, deer hide clothing, igloos and teepees.
If you get caught out in -50 + degree weather in the Arctic and don’t know how to build an igloo, you won’t survive.

      • BillyHW

I totally forgot about the deal parkas.

      • Minicapt

They appropriated those from the Siberians.

        Cheers

    • Put on leather gloves, a tool belt, a hard hat and pretend to go to work.

If you are not a honkie – that’s racist too.

(designated) activist = name of a fellow lefty on a “journalist’s” Rolodex.

Activists hold no moral authority over anyone. Who cares what the hell they say. I think it was Kathy Shaidle who used to write “You’re not smart enough to tell me how live.”

    • Alain

      Thank you.

    • BillyHW

She also used to write, “Women shouldn’t be allowed to vote.”

Imitation is the highest form of flattery.
I’d be somewhat pleased if someone decided to wear my ancestor’s style of dress. I certainly wouldn’t say it reduced me to a caricature.

  • Marius K

Why do they offend defenseless caricatures ? !

  • Pretending that living in northern ghettos and having casinos keeps one in touch with one’s roots also reduces one to a caricature.

  • Some idiotic Lefty jumped on this bandwagon with the cry of “Culture is not a costume”, oblivious to the fact that he was actually destroying his own argument.

If a culture needs the crutch of a fancy dress, it really is not much of a culture.

Heh. I bet you could have some fun dressing up in a “First Nations” outfit and staggering around whilst chugging amber-colored liquid out of a Captain Morgan bottle. Better make sure the bottle is well rinsed before putting the water and caramel syrup in it, however, lest you get arrested for drunk and disorderly…}:-]
