A Muslim polygamy site operated out of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has more than 100,000 profiles for users in Britain, where polygamy is illegal. The site gets most of its traffic from Pakistan, the United Kingdom, India, and Indonesia.
“According to sharia law, Muslims are allowed to practice polygyny,” SecondWife.com explains on its “About Us” section. “Polygyny” is a term for polygamy between one husband and many wives. “The Qur’an sipulates [sic] that a man may have up to four legal wives at any one time; the restriction on the number was not customary before the advent of Islam in Arabia.”
