N.J. teacher tells students to ‘speak American,’ sparking protests

Dozens of students at a north New Jersey high school walked out of classes Monday morning to protest a video showing a teacher apparently scolding Spanish-speaking students.

In a video that made local media headlines over the weekend, a teacher at Cliffside Park High School was recorded in class telling students, “Men and women are fighting. They are not fighting for your right to speak Spanish, they are fighting for your right to speak American.”
