Kent calls on ethics commissioner to investigate Morneau over corporation that holds French villa

Finance Minister Bill Morneau is facing a call for an investigation into his failure for two years to disclose one of his private corporations to Canada’s ethics watchdog.

In a letter to Conflict of Interest and Ethics Commissioner Mary Dawson, Conservative MP Peter Kent asks her to take a closer look at SCI Mas des Morneau, a company incorporated in France that owns and manages Morneau’s villa in the picturesque town of Oppède in France’s Provence region. Morneau and his wife, Nancy McCain, are listed as partners.

He’ll skate. In the end the politicians all watch out for each other. There’s really only one party.

    • Watchman

The investigation will go on until that party manages to unearth equivalent unethical behaviour by politicians on the other side. Than everyone will shut up and go about their business as usual.

I’d be astounded if they make as much of a fuss over this as Duffy paying back his padded expense account.

To be fair, doesn’t everyone have a Villa in France like Morneau and Mulcair? And certainly most Canadians spend their vacations on a private island with a billionaire con man.

    • Watchman

…as well as demanding that people who get a 50¢ staff discount on a hot dog get taxed on this 50¢ as if it was salary, but the private island vacation is just a ‘friends’ thing and untaxable.

This will be like water off a ducks back. Next week Trudeau will get some new socks, the media will get him some good photo ops and this will all be foregotten

  • Tooth&Claw

Disgusting pigs at the trough. They need to be turfed with extreme prejudice.

    • Alain

      Allowing career politicians encourages this.

      • DavidinNorthBurnaby

Absolutely. It should be one term and you’re done.

        • Alain

I don’t have a problem with it being a couple of terms or at the most three, but then it should be that when you are done, you are done. I mean you cannot just parachute into a different level of politics.

  • DMB

This could easily be a Bill Morneau speech!

    • Watchman

Unfortunately ‘desire for more’ is good, natural and is what makes Capitalism and Western Civilization work. Unfortunately that ‘greed’ is defined by progressives to, have or want more than the progressive making the accusation.

      • Alain

Indeed, which is why their greed is realised by stealing money and goods from others instead of working for it themselves. It is a marriage of greed with envy.

        • Watchman

Yes, what I meant to say was that Progressives real definition is:
‘greed’ = ‘desire for more’ + ‘you having more or wanting more than me’,
          yet they feel everyone that:
‘greed’ = ‘desire for more’, and is a very bad thing, is unnatural, and must be legislated against

        • Frances

And envy is the first of the seven deadly sins, with greed in third place.

  • Why would he ask Mary Dawson who has been known to throw out obvious illegal things related to Trudeau?

    Damn! That’s stupid!

    • Alain

Yes, but that is the mandate of the office she occupies. As long as the opposition keeps up the heat on the topic (yes that is a big assumption), perhaps this time Mary will have to do her job.

      • No, she won’t, I’m afraid.

Her contract was renewed while Trudeau attempted to deflect attention from his Aga Khan trip.

        She is complicit.

  • andycanuck

I’m sure they and the RCMP will get on that right after they charge Justin for breaking the law by accepting a flight from the Aga Khan.

    • DavidinNorthBurnaby

Last I heard the RCMP were busy hauling luggage for Justin’s so-called migrants.

  • Which is why Dawson must go.

  • Frances

And don’t forget that Morneau Shepell is the largest purveyor of private retirement plans in Canada, said plans being the only alternative for a small business owner if holding the funds in investments in his CCPC or Prof Corp is outlawed.

    • DavidinNorthBurnaby

The Crooked party Rides Again. This is what Canadians voted for.

But…’s only an administrative oversight. The smart people on CBC said so, it must be true.
