U.S. secretly tested carcinogen on Canadian cities during the Cold War, researcher finds

The U.S. Army secretly dumped a carcinogen on unknowing Canadians in Winnipeg and Alberta during the Cold War in testing linked to weaponry involving radioactive components meant to attack the Soviet Union, according to classified documents revealed in a new book.

Between July 9, 1953 and Aug 1, 1953, six kilograms of zinc cadmium sulfide was sprayed onto unsuspecting citizens of Winnipeg from U.S. Army planes. The Army returned 11 years later and repeated the experiments in Suffield, Alta. and Medicine Hat, Alta., according to Lisa Martino-Taylor.

Where do I sign up for this Mickey Mouse watch? Some kids have all the luck.

    • Drunk by Noon ✓

You know, the watches had radioactive tracker devices in them. 😉

  • DaninVan

We shouldn’t feel privileged, they did the same thing to their own citizens!

I was trying to find a link to the deliberate release of I believe Strontium -90(?) in the ’60s but I haven’t found it yet…

The present test is how to make Canada into Venezuela.

    • Justin is doing very well at it.

Another opportunity for Trudeau to virtue signal and apologize. Start filling up the dump trucks with “compensation”money.

Heh…we old farts don’t need LED flashlights to find our way to the loo for a middle-of-the-night whizz…we glow in the dark! 🙂

Hysteria and fear-mongering through carefully chosen words designed to scare.
You have similar radioactive trace isotopes injected into you, and in far higher concentrations, whenever you get certain MRIs and X-Rays.
This story also conflates a few different fallout and biological weapons research programs too.
In 1953 participation in this research was by INVITATION and PERMISSION of the Canadian government.
Do you really think we just flew across the border with plutonium and cropdusted Canada with it just to be jerks?

    • DaninVan

Yeh; permission from the Government, nobody asked the citizens.
As I pointed out earlier, you guys got the same unasked for lab rat treatment.

“by INVITATION and PERMISSION of the Canadian government.”

Sounds like something the Canadian government would do.

      “Hysteria and fear-mongering”

Lack of education allows this type of BS to be published daily in this country.

where the fuck are the signed consent forms by every citizen in these provinces

don’t be an idiot. governments have no legal authority to consent on behalf of private people to their unknowingly being subjected to medical experimentation like this

it is criminal and you know it

Even if true buying into the Group A did bad things to Group B therefore All of Group A and by proxy Group C should pay Group B does nothing but add fuel to the fire the world currently is in. Count me out.

It was the Cold war. Everyone thought they were going to die. I’m going to forgive and move on. There is a 1000 other battles these days if one needs to find a hill to die on.

Zinc cadmium sulfide was used as a tracer to simulate the dispersion of biologic weapons, not dispersion of fallout from nuclear weapons. It was also done in the UK.

Makes you wonder what the put in the vaccinations. If they would sign off on spraying populations a small tweak in vaccine for a few small communities is nothing.

Sorry to sound so jaded, but all sorts of nefarious shit was going on. One of the most infamous was the CIA-LSD testing that was inflicted on unsuspecting patients at the Allen Memorial in Montreal. It was all hush-hush but everyone knew about it.

    • DaninVan

Waffle; they couldn’t tell the public. They’d have them beating down the doors trying to get in (free drugs)! 😉

that is an act of war, terrorism, and criminal

where is the class action law suit which the canadian govt should be paying the legal fees for?

The Soviets messed up an anthrax test in 1979 that killed over a hundred people.

But 8 years earlier they intentionally tested hemorrhagic smallpox on people, killing at least 9 or 10.

The 1956 film ‘The Conqueror’ was filmed next to an atomic test site and used dirt and soil from the test site on set. 91 of the cast of 220 got cancer, 46 or 47 died.

They should’ve sprayed it over Quebec instead… Pierre might’ve died young and never become Prime Minister!
