French dreams of rivalling Hollywood with Gallic Star Wars end in fiasco

French dreams of creating a Gallic blockbuster to rival Star Wars have gone up in smoke after the most expensive in European cinema history turned into a financial flop.

Casting a model as the female lead because she’s a lesbian may have contributed to this failure.

So the same as the female-cast Ghostbusters remake then.

Pretty much. French Cinema is a laughable pretentious sad excuse for showing off tits and asses, and not much more.

Yup and the infuriating thing is that the comic books are quite popular and well written. It’s not just the social justice checkbox model/actress at fault. It’s also Besson’s fault. He’s never read the comics (which is mindboggling if true; because how can he call himself a scifi/fantasy director and never read at least 1?!) and wanted to make it “literary” rather than the pulpy good fun it is that celebrates femininity, mature relationships, duty and loyalty

Gosh that’s so funny. Socialist movie industry types sure do like taxes when other people pay them. But they always lobby for tax-relief for themselves.

Every foreign knock-off of Hollywood ends up the same way. My advice to these filmmakers is, be yourself. Everybody else is already taken.

This wasn’t a terrible movie by any means…but the story was muddled and the leads were neither particularly heroic or romantically believable. I don’t think SJ politics had anything to do with it.
