Catalans ‘vote overwhelmingly for independence’ in ‘illegal’ referendum

Catalan officials claimed 90% of 2.2million voters had called for independence in an ‘illegal’ referendum blighted by violent scenes which left at least 888 people injured.

World leaders condemned the brutal scenes after officials revealed that hundreds of protesters have been injured so far.

Officers were seen stamping and kicking protesters as they stormed buildings and seized ballot boxes.

Footage captured in the village of Sarria de Ter in the province of Girona showed authorities using an axe to smash down the doors of a polling station where Catalan president Carles Puigdemont was due to cast his vote.

Spain: Carve up Israel and give most of it away to the Muslims.

Spain: Catalonia will NEVER have self determination!

    • Funny how that works.

      And why not?
The Spanish violated the 1978 Pact. Zapatero broke his promise that the updated Estatut wouldn’t be changed or modified and then the Constitutitional tribunal goes out and shreds it. Of course the Catalans were total dumbasses not to have seen this coming as the exact, the exact same thing happened back in 1931 with the Estatut de Nuria and not prepared a plan B.

What happened 7 years ago and the subsequent behaviour by the Spanish left and right (with their unionist lapdogs) finally convinced the Catalan that the Spanish: left, right, monarchist, republican, anarchist, communist whatever could and would never abide by a truly autonomous Catalunya.
In short, the Spanish political establishment remain the same untrustworthy, shiftless, uniformizing group of idiots since 1715 who still treat the region as it were a right of conquest to be perpetually despoiled. Because shut up.
And a lot of Catalans who lived through the republic and Spanish civil war have long the central govt’s bad faith and at times perfidy when dealing with the region .Something that the Spanish establishment completely ignored or downplayed to their detriment

The media in the EU is generally against the actions of the Spanish government, except for German media which is in support of maintaining Spanish territorial integrity. No surprise there.
