The Long Night Ahead

Facebook just declared war against “disruptive” information.  In addition to hundreds of new human censors, they are training AI censors capable of identifying and deleting ‘unacceptable’ information found in the discussions of all two billion members in real time. This development highlights what the real danger posed by a socially networked world actually is.

    So is someone posts “disruptive information” are they declared a “disruptive person”, and shunned like a “suppressive person” in Scientology? Facebook and Scientology would be a match made in hell.

    I’m confident that when a government chokes expression down hard enough their entire society and government will fail. Sometimes it’s spectacular sometimes it’s slow but it stops functioning all the same. Eventually the work-effort of maintaining the machinery of suppression become the entirety of the government and everything else just stops.
