Will accused 9/11 architect Khalid Sheikh Mohammed ever come to trial?

Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the accused “architect” of the terrorist attacks of 11 September 2001, will spend the 16th anniversary of the atrocity sitting in Guantánamo Bay, preparing for his 25th pre-trial hearing.

That hearing will take place next month. Military prosecutors’ latest estimate is that jury selection in Mohammed’s terrorism trial will begin in January 2019. Most interested experts think that is wildly optimistic, and are asking if a man arrested in Pakistan in 2003 will ever stand trial at all.

“It will take another two, three or four years to get the case to trial and it will take a year or so to try,” the 53-year-old’s lawyer, David Nevin, told the Guardian.

Who cares? A better question is why is he still alive?

There’s no chance he’s innocent, execute him already, and then skip the Islamic funerary rites and bury him in pig entrails, and film it.

No. He will never see trial. The idiots in government all those years ago, like Alberto Gonzales and John Yoo ensured that nothing could ever would ever be done. They could never articulate what these criminals were – war criminals, PoW’s, terrorists? They couldn’t define what these guys could even be charged with or where to hold the trials. It was pure theater. And all they managed to do is weaken the constitutionality of our own laws by holding people for years without trial and often without charging them. What we should have done is pumped all the information out of them and shot them all. Quietly, without ever discussing that we had them at all. Now we have this monster where we still can’t try them and we refuse to let them go. If you’re going to be the KGB, go all the way and liquidate them.

Yes, it kind of makes you understand why they have to shave their whole bodies before going on suicide missions; no virgin in paradise would let that thing near her.

In Canada they’d let him go, because it has taken so long.

Then give him lots of money.

You’re right. I forgot about that.

Why hasn’t someone turned that pelt into a rug yet?

Don’t really care if he comes to trial or not, as long as he stays where he is – permanently.
