UN: ‘Alarming number’ of 270,000 Rohingya in Myanmar exodus

COX’S BAZAR, Bangladesh — The U.N. said that an “alarming number” of 270,000 Rohingya Muslims have fled violence in Myanmar by crossing into Bangladesh in the last two weeks.

The new figure confirmed Friday by U.N. refugee agency spokeswoman Vivian Tan is much higher than the 164,000 the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees had previously estimated had arrived since Aug. 25.

“This is an alarming number,” Tan said. “The existing camps are full to the capacity. There is a lot of pressure on relief agencies to accommodate the rising numbers.”

She said the new number was still a “rough estimate,” and based on an assessment that involved a host of aid agencies operating in the area. Some aid groups also had identified “new pockets of people that we did not know about before, mainly in villages” where Bangladeshi communities had taken them in, but also some new settlements and clusters in difficult-to-access areas.

Makeshift camps were quickly appearing and expanding along roadsides, Tan said.

She said it was possible some people who received help from multiple agencies could have been counted twice.

The exodus from Myanmar’s northern Rakhine state began Aug. 25 after Rohingya insurgents attacked police posts. The military responded with what it called “clearance operations” to root out any fighters it said might be hiding in villages of Rakhine state.

I can’t help but wonder if Burma is doing what other states dealing with terrorist insurgencies from Muslim settler colonies will eventually be forced to do.

Yes, everyone including the Canadian media, is upset that Burma doesn’t allow peace loving muslims, to carry out their cultural heritage of attacking police stations and military out posts.

    • WalterBannon

… allow muslims to carry out their cultural heritage of ethnic cleansing by “diversity”

  • Drunk by Noon ✓

Myanmar knows that diversity cannot be celebrated, it can only be resisted or it can be your destruction.

    • WalterBannon

      diversity is ethnic cleansing

  • Brett_McS

It’s only a sub-plot of the movie but Children of Men shows that happening – rounding up and expelling Muslims – in a future UK. There are still better options, but it could happen.

  • WalterBannon

expelling muslims is a good thing

    • pdxnag

Except genuine apostates, if we can accurately extreme-vet them.

the rohinga are bangladeshi muslims . They have been moving (Hijra)into Burma in increasing numbers and attempting to carve out a muslim province just as the muslims are attempting in next door Thailand.it takes a lot to stir Buddhists to anger and attack but the rohinga muslims have managed to do it. the Burmese and That people are leading the way into what all muslim tainted countries will eventually have to do ,to avoid sliding back into medieval filth.

    • Liberal Progressive

But Allah said that all the world would become Muslim and he says he is God so wouldn’t he know best?

    • I applaud Burma for standing up for themselves.

  • Exile1981

These muslims slipped into berma over the last 20 years. This is nothing more than the burmese people repelling an invasion force and sending its defeated troops back home.

    • The Rohingya are from Bangladesh, Bangladesh is refusing to take them.

      • Exile1981

yup, its funny that the burmese who sent the invaders don’t want their defeated forces back.

    I’ve posted this before but it bears repeating;

Absolutely Shmooviyet. Not just him, but other Muslims too stand out for their pig-headed arrogance. A good number of Muslims revel and bask in the terrorist acts of their brethren. They love to parade in airports in their Islamic garb and ugly beards.

They get a perverse sense of satisfaction by making infidels feel uncomfortable. They derive pleasure from it. Muslims are incredibly difficult to deal with. They know how to bear down on you and wear you out, employing various tactics. It’s unceasing.

The terrorists murder you, while the so-called moderates gradually suck the life out of you if your not careful and don’t fight back. My people, the Sikhs and Hindus, learned the hard way, over several centuries and countless genocidal massacres, tortures, rapes, abductions, forced conversions, near annhilement of our cultures and religion, and the dismemberment of the sub-continent. Western powers like the US looked the other way. Now they are faced with the same problem.

Regrettably, Europe is in for a lot more pain if it doesn’t change direction soon.

Naturally the UN makes no mention of the fact that the Buddhist nation next door (Thailand) is fighting a savage insurgency of jihadis who demand their own separate Islamic state in the three southern provinces where the Muzz are a majority:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Thailand_insurgency

That’s what’s waiting for Burma if they don’t deal with the Rohingya now while they have a chance.

    • I think I will defer to Burma’s long historical knowledge of Islam.

    • k1962

      Same problem in the Philippines.

    • Will Quest

Same thing is happening in southern Philippines ….. Muslims secure an area a start terrorizing for their enclaves independence….. fighting to be ruled by sharia….. it is considered arborent for muslims to live outside of precious sharia rule….

In other words what we have here are Muslim invaders self-deporting, which is a good thing.

  • caliroxanne

The Rohingya are not “Palestinians” and Myanmar is not Israel. If Israel can’t be attacked and bashed over this, then it doesn’t matter. Thousands of “human rights” protesters will NOT take to the streets in a city near you, and other than a mention, the UN will not hold emergency sessions.

      • ismiselemeas

This smacks of NATO bombing the wrong side in the Balkans. Why is it so difficult for the west to understand that muslims can be the instigators and can be guilty of insurrection?

      • caliroxanne

I wonder how they’ll bring the Palestinians in on this. Afterall, the Palies have managed to maneuver themselves as the international poster children of oppressed everywhere even though ultimately, they don’t want anyone to be more oppressed or victimized than them.

    • k1962

I wonder if Roger Waters will bother mentioning this during his concert? Nope.

Burma has learned the hard way what Buddhist monk Ashin Wirathu said.

The Toronto Star and Crescent is building up to a campaign to coerce Turdeau to let them come to Canada. Every day there is at least one article bemoaning the situation of the “poor abused Rohingya Muslims”. No suggestion that perhaps their fellow Muslim nations take them in. (If the Rohingya wait to claim refugee status in Canada until the outside temperature in Canada is around 0C they’ll no doubt get free Canada Goose jackets).
Funny – tiny Israel absorbed 800K Jews who were expelled from Arab countries but all those Mo countries can’t absorb 1 million Rohingya Muslims.

    • There is no Rohinga genocide they’re simply being kicked out of sovereign Burma.

The chick in pink, that Benjamin thing was *live* at the protest and I couldn’t resist the opportunity to be the shark with a snark attack…

Myanmar is home to around 150 distinct ethnic groups yet they have trouble with only one of them. Rohingya history is clear and documented. Bangladesh doesn’t want them back because they supported Pakistan during the civil war. Rakhine state used to be majority Buddhist but Rohingya have turned it into an islamic shit hole. Nobody wants them because they’re violent expansionists, rapists and kidnappers. The MSM fails to talk about the indigenous Burmese killed and abducted by Rohingya.
