U.S., Canada and Mexico Outline NAFTA Priorities – Canada’s Hilarious Virtue Signaling, and Mexico Perpetually Offended…

Through Ms. Freedlan’s leadership – Canada is focused on ensuring a “progressive trade agenda”. She is demanding a focus on LGBTQ, and specifically transgender rights in the trade deal, in addition to cultural sensitivity aspects, and climate change. Go figure.

“Canada’s hilarious virtue signalling…” I wish I could find it hilarious but it’s mostly tiresome and foolish.

    • It is sad.

      • Dana Garcia

Virtue signaling is what happens when a society rejects religion. You need display when an all-knowing god isn’t available for judgement.

    • Bla Bla

It’s like we are being ruled over by the same type of aristocrats that plagued France in the 1780s. Absolutely no care for the welfare or happiness of their citizens and continue to pursue the same detrimental policies of graft and corruption regardless of who gets hurt. Perhaps it is time for Mme. Guillotine to sing again!

LOL – there is even a song!

I won’t comment on the appropriateness or otherwise of the guillotine in dealing with our betters. I will note however, that far from not caring for the welfare and happiness of the citizens, they actually know much better than we ourselves, what is required for our well-being and intend to implement it, regardless of what we think. They are all-wise, doncha know!

I am reminded (yet again) of this famous quote from C.S. Lewis, from his 1948 book God in the Dock: Essays on Theology:

“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience. They may be more likely to go to Heaven yet at the same time likelier to make a Hell of earth. This very kindness stings with intolerable insult. To be “cured” against one’s will and cured of states which we may not regard as disease is to be put on a level of those who have not yet reached the age of reason or those who never will; to be classed with infants, imbeciles, and domestic animals.”

        • Bla Bla

Ah yes, that was a good passage indeed!

  • Jeebus Murphy. They’ve taken Mulroney out of the attic, dusted him off and propped him up. Smart move on the part of the Left — they know he has the biggest ego in the omniverse, especially about NAFTA because it was his “baby”. The single policy by which he makes his claim to be a “Statesman”. And they also know he has a short memory — the Left literally butchered Mulroney over NAFTA (and all of his subsequent policies), to the degree that I think he was hospitalized because of a stress-related illness. Have you forgotten, Mr. Mulroney, that the Left tried to get you sent to prison when you were Prime Minister?

As far as LGBTQALPHABET, we are witnessing mass mental illness. What the hell does penis and vagina stuff have to do with free trade?

    • The LPC is all about virtue signalling, it makes their base happy.

      • The Trump team should respond with a bit of their own “virtue-signalling”. For example, by including the issue of Islamic terrorism — tighter controls when trading with Islamic countries that throw Gays off buildings.

      • Bla Bla

We’ll be virtue signalling all the way to the gutter like venezeula – except it’s colder here.

    • Maggat

Ask Chrystia Freeland I’m sure she knows.

      • Bla Bla

Nah, they are just winging it.

      • ontario john

She was so excited at the press conference, when she announced that whiny indian rights were discussed. Yes, that is the first thing on the minds of Canadians regarding the trade talks. At least she didn’t cry. Hopefully she doesn’t mention here family’s Nazi past to the American media.

      • WalterBannon

she knows how far her head will fit up her ass

    • Sid Falco

Maybe “Envelopes” Mulroney will try and squeeze in a nafta sales tax (NST?)

  • k1962

We are a joke, the laughingstock of the sane thinkers.

    • J. C.

I’d be rolling on the floor in hysterics if I wasn’t aware of the absolute threat to my existence that the Liberals are… 🙁

      • k1962

        Agreed.

  • Maggat

NAFTA as we have had it for long time has been very beneficial for Canada and myself in particular. I felt bringing in Mexico was more of a ‘feel good’ measure and sidelined the true benefits. Now with the 80IQ bunch dealing with a resurgent USA under Trump we are going to be on the short end of the stick and it will hurt. Both economically, to our pride, and well being as a free country.

    • CoolTolerance

Chapter 19: Trump’s team will walk away and I don’t blame them. End of NAFTA.

      • Alain

They really should just walk away.

  • Drunk by Noon ✓

Why do we in the U.S. need NAFTA at all?
If we want to have separate trade agreements between Mexico and Canada, then why commingle the two?
How much direct trade does Canada do with Mexico?

    • Clausewitz

Oh, well now you’re just talking sense. Under the Trudeau regime that’s no longer allowed.

    • A perfectly sensible question. Which is why it is never asked.

    • moraywatson

The lie about free trade agreements is that while they may make it easier for capital to migrate they do not permit labour to migrate.

    • k1962

Well, I know we get a lot of our fruits and veggies from Mexico in the winter (which I try to avoid buying because G-d only knows what they spray on them and how they are handled) and we get cars….and people. What we send to them, who knows.

      • Drunk by Noon ✓

In most instances trade agreements with third-world countries only benefit the third-world country and a few people over here.
We would be far better off if we sealed our border with Mexico Ann eliminated all aid, trade, and travel.
No more drug money fueling the Mexican cartels and paying off their politicians.

    • Alain

The idea behind NAFTA was for it to lead to a N. American Union similiar to the EU, and that should never ever be allowed to happen. It is all about arriving at their goal of global government through incrementalism.

  • David

https://theconservativetreehouse.com/2017/08/16/nafta-day-1-recap/ Looks like they’re going to do a daily summary (for those that have the stomach)

    • Maybe Trump can lure Mulroney to defect back to the conservative camp by appealing to the Reagan years (Mulroney and Reagan were good friends — probably the only time that two leaders took to the stage together to sing “When Irish Eyes Are Smiling”).

  • xavier

Lord why can’t we have sensible improvements in the trade pact? I dunno technology sharing. Cross border employment opportunities. Food truck free trade. Free tradev in bacon milk butter pigs

  • WalterBannon

Chrystia Freeland is a big douche and a turd.

  • Gary

i watched Freeland on the Bill Maher show and the crowd must think that canada is full of morons that embrace islam because 99.99% of the followers are peaceful and victims of racism because of those few bad apples.

I stopped listening to 640 am radio in the morning from 6-9 because the two hosts are bigots where they can’t stop talking about the USA and racism .
Now these 2 still don’t get it that it’s not Trumps job to get Justin re-elected in 2019 to bring in another 100,000 unskilled refugees to vote Liberal for life.

Even the CBC attacks Trumps when he doesn’t follow Justin cues .

    • Editor

For reference, here is Freeland being owned by Maher. The willfully blind, pigheaded adherence to ideology, even when confronted with calm, logical argumentation is breathtaking. I figure she cannot be so stupid as to actually believe the nonsense she is spewing so she is therefore one of the most unprincipled, dishonest, lying political whores this country has ever seen. And she’s our chief virtue signaling negotiator for NAFTA. She is way out of her league but that’s usually the case for quota hires. This is not going to go well . . .

I had not heard this before and could only tolerate getting about half way through. Sadly her comments/opinion are very typical of what I have encountered with most Canadian women. They cannot get beyond that female tendency of believing everyone must be nice and get along. That is pure emotion totally lacking logic and iresults in innocent people getting either injured, raped or killed. This was also quiet representative of my own experience with such people in that you cannot reason with them no matter what. That she is a government minister is even worse.

    • k1962

I saw that too. She was shrill and said nothing to back up her points, like all liberals.
