Rich Lowry on Charlottesville: “There was violence on both sides”

Joy Reid doesn’t brook much dissent on her own MSNBC show, regularly shutting down, as herehere and here, conservatives who have the temerity to disagree with her. Fortunately, when Rich Lowry of the National Review took on the Reid this morning, it happened on Meet the Press, where Reid was a fellow panelist rather than host.

The topic was the violence between neo-Nazi/white nationalists and Antifa, in which numerous people were injured and one woman killed. President Trump has come under withering media and political attack for a statement condemning violence “on many sides.”

  • The police and mayor are responsible. It’s not like antifa’s tactics are unknown.

    • They allowed it to happen.

The encouraged antifa and forced the otherside to run a guantlet to get to their park.

Trump is wisely staying silent. He is playing Chess whilst the Mainstream Media are playing Checkers. Watch and see.

Don’t take a genius to recognize how often the facts of these cases shift wildly in the first few days, and how often they outright blow up in the faces of the media and others who jump to their desired conclusions.

Yawn, so another day then. I’ll be concerned when those serial liars have something good to say.

I condemn AntiFa and the city and the Mayor of Charlottesville.
I’ll condemn the driver of that car as soon as I’m convinced he wasn’t running from an AntiFa lynch mob.
In the meantime, enjoy some moral equivalency from an idiot, because that’s where most of it comes from.

Antifa is just leftist violence pure and simple. They are against any type of free speech unless it is their own diatribe. So the neo-Nazi’s are right out there in the brain trust stakes and most people with any common sense understand this, but if they were allowed to have their march without the obvious intimidation and goading of Antifa would anybody have been killed or injured?

    • The politicians and cops are dummkopfs. There’s a simple solution: Ban counter-protests (on both sides). When a group already has a legal permit for a protest, why the hell would authorities allow a counter-protest at the same time and location (and likely without a permit)? And since when do Politicians have the authority to order Police to “stand down” from applying the law?

That’s about the most sensible idea I’ve seen yet about these kinds of situations. Let one group demonstrate one day, the opposing group the next, but under no circumstances allow them both to be in the same place at the same time.

        • It’s like booking an American football game and a European soccer game in a stadium at the same time. Fans from both sports paid their tickets and they want to see the game of their choice. A brawl is sure to ensue.

  • So what’s the story on James Fields? Apparently he is in fact a Nazi sympathizer, but I would find it hard to believe that he planned in advance to run people down. Driving all the way from Ohio for that purpose? — I doubt it. He more likely exploded after witnessing the Antifa violence.

Will we find out his motives — will his Lawyer talk to Press?

There is supposed to be video of his car being attacked by antifa seconds before he accelerated.

      • Could be. I’ve seen video where he initially approached the crowd slowly and practically stopped, then suddenly accelerated. Which doesn’t seem to make sense if he intended to run everybody over. If he really planned to kill a bunch of people he could have accelerated long before that and reached a much higher speed. The kid’s only 20 years old — he may have panicked.

The Left does not like it one little bit when their shock troops are called out for their violent behaviour.

  • Ho Hum

I don’t have one ounce of sympathy for the woman who got killed. She went there with for the purpose of creating violence and to deny other Americans their first amendment right. She got more than she bargained for when she got squished under the Dodge Charger – boo hoo!
