Explosion reported at Islamic Center in Bloomington

Shortly after 5 a.m. Saturday, Bloomington police responded to a call of an explosion at the Dar Al-Farooq Islamic Center near Interstate Hwy. 494 and Portland Avenue South.

On Saturday afternoon, Bloomington police and the FBI said the preliminary investigation indicates the explosion was caused by a destructive device, in violation of federal law.

“At this point our reports are that there was an explosion and our initial first responders from the fire department, the police department found some smoke,” said Bloomington Police Chief Jeff Potts. “There was no additional explosions or anything like that. There was no fire.”
