California Moves One Step Closer to Declaring Independence from US Government

After a bid to launch a California secession movement failed in April, a more moderate ballot measure has been approved, and its backers now have 180 days to attain nearly 600,000 signatures in order to put it up to vote in the 2018 election.

The economics of Calexit make about as much sense as Quebec Independence. They are going to do the same thing, whine, piss and moan, stomp their feet and try to blackmail the rest of the country. Call their bluff. Kick them out.

Should California secede, the United States will remain a great nation of 290 million people while California will become just another international basket case.

    Cali ain’t going nowhere.
This is a shakedown for more federal bux.
So Cal hate NorCal worse than the two Koreas hate each other.

    • Alain

We Canadians know very well how that works, so I hope you don’t fall for it like our federal government does.

    How can California leave—
Ontario has a ‘Cap and Trade’ agreement with them.

  • How will California deal with North Korea when they get a nuclear bomb lobbed on one of their cities?

They will fight them with carbon credits!

Let them try to separate. Quebec has been using that tactic for more than 40 years to get what they want as bribes to stay in Canada.

    • Justin St.Denis

To be fair, Quebec at the very least has a cultural argument on its side. Quebec has a culture and identity, the ROC does not. California, for its part, cannot hold up its film industry as evidence of distinct culture or identity.

In the end, however, extortion is extortion………

California does have Silicon Valley, but how long will it take for its business climate to go bad?

      • barryjr

What culture? Just a bunch of xenophobic shake down men.

      • Alain

That used to be the case, but unless you consider marxism a culture they don’t. Every radical leftist cause and policy is embraced and implemented while being funded by the rest of the country.

        • Justin St.Denis

I was speaking specifically of the time when the Independence movement was at its peak – the mid-1970s to the mid-1980s. We lived in Quebec at the time. It was a different world then. Had the separatists succeeded, Quebec would be a very different place today, I suspect. I am not making a political argument here, merely reflecting on our experience of Quebec then versus now.

Let them leave, then Hillary can quit claiming she won the popular vote.

Let’s start by barring them from all federal elections now

Great! That may give us a place to dump all of our illegals and criminals. Cheaper than sending them back or monitoring them. The great California Gulag!’ They can be all warm and fuzzy together singing in sweet harmony!
