‘Privileged’ Justin Trudeau accused of colonialist attitude over boxing match

Account of how 2012 match against fellow politician Patrick Brazeau came about doesn’t square with vows to repair Canada’s relationship with indigenous people

“It wasn’t random,” Trudeau told Rolling Stone magazine in an interview published this week. “I wanted someone who would be a good foil, and we stumbled upon the scrappy tough-guy senator from an indigenous community. He fit the bill, and it was a very nice counterpoint. I saw it as the right kind of narrative, the right story to tell.”

The comments – part of a 6,800-word August cover story on the prime minister – sparked immediate reaction. “So ‘privileged white guy beats up Indian’ was the ‘right kind of narrative?’ Seriously?” wrote one person on Twitter, while another noted: “White guy in power & entitlement looks 4 an #Indigenous human to beat up so he looks like a strong white dude. How precious & colonial supreme.”

He beat up a drug addled drunk.

    It is really funny.
They are unable to see the bad optics.

    • He is that full of himself.

      • Surele Surele

right… he is full of somethin’

  • Canadian Born

Put him up against the Rock and see what happens. He just makes me sick. The whole Trudeau family is a disgrace to Canada and Canadians can’t see it. How can the younger generation think he is good looking? Do they all need their eyes tested? Paul Walker who played in the Fast and Furious was drop dead gorgeous but Junior can only be compared to beagle or pit bull in looks. He just thinks he is better than the indigenous people, but he is sadly mistaken!

  • Killer Marmot

Trudeau’s statement concerning the bout was bizarre, or to be charitable came out badly.

The actual bout, however, was fine.

  • Jaedo Drax

    Did Brazeau take a dive?

    • Killer Marmot

Didn’t look like it me, and I box.

Brazeau appeared to be the more dangerous fighter, but wore himself out in the first round. Had he been in better shape or paced himself better (preferably both), he may well have won.

      • He was out of shape.

      • DD_Austin

It wouldn’t, can’t be too obvious

Reminded me of a WWW match… choreographed and scripted.

        • Killer Marmot

It looked legit to me. Very typical of competent recreational-level boxing.

      • andycanuck

At the time I read (maybe through Ezra Levant who was really pushing the match) that the MMA fighters are only used to going hard-out (admittedly giving 100%) for a short while; while boxers are used to taking the slow-and-steady approach. So Justin just took it during the MMA round/s and came back in the boxing round/s that Brazeau wasn’t used to.

And Trudeau was a trained boxer—rich guys could afford fencing lessons too in money and time back in the day.

  • As long as Trudeau is in the limelight, I don’t think he cares if it looks bad or not.

    • canminuteman

I don’t think he’s smart enough to know whether he looks bad or not.

  • just_one_Sewer Rat_guy

Lmao. The cover of that Rolling Stone mag that has a headline: “Justin Trudeau, Why can’t he be our President?”

Roll over fvcking die with laughter! PLEASE, PLEASE TAKE HIM! We will even pay you to take him!

  • The Butterfly

I thought we were never going to speak of this incident again?

  • Spatchcocked

Trudy set back Canadian And First Nations relations back decades by beating up on a poor aboriginal that was still in recovery from his Residential school nightmare. Brazeau was also stricken with a mild case of smallpox as a child I heard……infected by parkas the Feds had distributed to his Nation one severe winter…….
I was told that in the clinches Trudy kept repeating to Brazeau to “stick this in your peace pipe and smoke it.”

One only need look at Brazeau’s rapid decline after being used as a punching bag by a feminist….and now he lives as a hollow husk of the warrior he once was…

I hope you’re proud of yourself Trudy……you forked tongued buffalo murderer…

  • just_one_Sewer Rat_guy

Funny, because he IS a white privileged prick, living off of daddy’s trust fund worth millions.

  • Spatchcocked

    Go dynamite some fish Trudy…..

  • Cat-astrophe

Exactly what I thought of this ‘magic’ match right from when the fight took place and he was swaggering around like a hero.
Hey dude, you just beat up an Indian, feel better?

  • shasta

“He beat up a drug addled drunk.”

And after he finished with his mother he took on Patrick Brazeau.

  • Spatchcocked

Most physically capable gents understand it never does to boast of ones toughness and scrapping ability….its déclassé …..
It indicates a certain need to be bigger than you are….an insecurity.
Trudy has made a dinner of his bouncer status as a young ‘un on several occasions particularly speaking to students.
I immediately thought to myself he was a vain little Bantam rooster trying to impress when it’s rather obvious the kid wouldn’t last one minute with a serious case. He’d be crying for his mom in less than a minute.
As I’ve said he’s a poseur….a lisping poseur trying to be Byronic.

  • simus1

    OOPSIE !
Shiny Pony forgot to make clear that Prime Minister Harper-Hitler appointed ex army infantryman Senator Brazeau as just one of his many CPC n- – – k – – traitors to help him oppress their own group of long suffering visible minority serfs.
So it was all fair and square Political Correctness wise.
    Shiny Pony wins again.

COMMENTARY: Justin Trudeau values coolness over competence, Rolling Stone cover reminds us

    • andycanuck

Thanks but no. I saw enough Global TV tweets last night on Dean Skoreyko’s timeline to make me ill without going for the full report.

      • lolwut? (Deplorable Hoser)

That commentary is from Andrew Lawton.

  • andycanuck

Pretty funny having this come back to politically-correctly bite him in the ass even just a bit. Ha, ha!
