‘It’s inaccurate’: Veterans’ group criticizes Canadian Mint for ‘Battle of Dieppe’ collector coin

I have never heard anyone refer to the Dieppe Raid as the “Battle of Dieppe”

This reminds of my visit to the Canadian War Museum whose gift shop at the time should have been named the “Bush Derangement Syndrome Zone”

If they complain too much they’re going to put dude in a dress and put a rainbow flag on the other side.

And Turdo Senior in a German army uniform.

    • Oh I’m sure they will.

The coin is just garbage any way you look at it, just the way it was intended to be.

    • deplorabledave

Yes indeed. It looks like a six year old designed it.

I forgot about the Canadian War Museum gift shop thing with George W. Bush, the original Hitler, at least since Reagan, who was the first Hitler since Nixon.
I must say that our Hitlers are getting better all the time!

    • A well implemented quality control program will do that.

Our Hitler’s are great; the best Hitler’s in the world.
        We have fantastic Hitlers.
Our Hitlers are the envy of the world.
        America makes the best Hitlers.

But in Canada, everyone at the Hitler banquet gets a trophy.

We don’t want anyone feeling excluded.

The face of the soldier looks painfully devoid of any “old stock” features

    • Looks kinda Oriental, maybe they meant to celebrate Mao’s victory.

Why is it not a picture of Trudeau’s Defence Minister. He led the attack at Dieppe.

  • Watchman

Where’s the depiction of women? And blacks? And Inuit? And persons who don’t identify as men or women? Why is the coin so sexist? /sarc

    • I bet they have a whole line of those planned.

      • Frances

Actually, Blazing, if Prairie regiments were involved, some of the local Indians would have been there. Sorry for the delay in responding; took a few days away from the computer.

Does Trudeau get 30 of these silver coins for his outstanding work ongoing in Canada?

    …the Honourable John McCallum

“He became widely known and criticized in 2002 when he admitted, while
serving as the Minister of National Defence, that he had never heard of
    the 1942 Dieppe raid”

      Good Lord!
I’m an American and even I heard of the Dieppe Raid, and we weren’t even there!

And yet Johnny “Walker” McCallum had as privileged an education as is available and taught in four different Canadian universities. From your link:

“He received his secondary education at Selwyn House School and Trinity College School.[3] He has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Queens’ College, Cambridge University, a diplôme d’études supérieures from Université de Paris and a Doctorate in economics from McGill University. He was a professor of economics at the University of Manitoba from 1976 until 1978, Simon Fraser University from 1978 until 1982, the Université du Québec à Montréal from 1982 until 1987, and McGill University from 1987 until 1994.”

I guess basic Canadian history wasn’t part of Johnny’s extensive education. That didn’t seem to harm his career any, though. He was eminently qualified, apparently, to be a cabinet minister in two different Liberal governments and now Ambassador to China. Also well suited to tell Canadians how important it was to import lots of terrorists, er, pardon me, refugees as Minister of Immigration in the Justin Crew.

As Minister of Defence for da little PM from Shawinigan, he seemed to be singularly ignorant of Canadian military history, referring to the famous World War I battle at Vimy Ridge as “Vichy”.

It’s unclear whether the soldier on the coin is advancing or has just been shot in the gut right before the pain response but enough to impede his forward motion. In any event, the area around in midsection is also muddled; is the rifle impaling him? Is he riding it?

In the background, the soldiers are running the other way from our “advancing” soldier who then looks back at us. His expression is pissed but not seemingly at the enemy. He doesn’t look fightin’ stern or fightin’ mad. His right hand is open like he’s feeling the summer wind thru a moving car window, not like he’s in an event of spectacular magnitude and sacrifice.
