As to who wins the award, we are all awaiting with baited breath.

Oddly, I cannot find a single medical specialist who does not strongly recommend to patients with asthma or COPD to get the hell out of Toronto. This has little to do with “green” and everything to do with traffic gridlock. Until Toronto solves the gridlock issue – which years of neglect ensures Toronto will NEVER be able to do – then people with pulmonary disorders will abandon the city. BTW, Toronto’s bike lanes make gridlock worse. My doctor told me that cyclists in Toronto will likely be looking at cancer diagnoses within 25 years.

I know what you mean. As a child and teenager, I grew up north of smoky Pittsburgh, and suffered from asthma attacks — way back then called “chest colds”. In 1970 I moved to Ottawa, and my lungs got better. In the 1980s I moved first to Kingston, before making my home out here in Fredericton, NB. Here Fredericton is a clean-air city (no traffic problems at all), and I have no more asthma attacks.

When I heard Joe Mehevic claim that over 1000 people in Toronto die per year from smog . I sent him an email where I asked for just 1 death Certificate that listed Smog as the cause of death.
Then I asked him why the City allows the Indy Auto race and CNE Air Show where the exhausts from them are toxic while jet exhaust was linked to Lung Cancer in Airport workers on the tarmac near the engines.

Councillor Mehevic only responded to the INDY race and Air Show where he claimed that Toronto has NO control over them because those events are Bid for outside of Canada as International .

Right….foreign nations that don’t wants the pollution can let canada win the Bids and have our people killed .
So Toronto needs the Tourism dollars for health care costs from smog and pollution by the Air Show and INDY race which they can’t cancel because they meed the money for health care…….

          Sounds like “Canadian logic”. 😉

Maybe Toronto can follow Wynne’s green energy plan, that saw taxpayers pay the States over 9 billion dollars to take our excess hydro. And she is now planning on building an underwater hydro line across Lake Erie, to pay them more money to take our hydro.

I rarely see any bikers in those restrictive to traffic new bike lanes in Calgary. Maybe bike couriers downtown use the lanes but that’s about it. Municipal gov’ts. love spending money on useless stuff.
